Hi Fellas-

Just a quick question. Am I able to remove the OptiDrive sensor unit that is mounted on the transmission itself along with the display unit without any consequences to the tranny itself? I know it is designed to prevent you from shifting into reverse or forward when the truck is moving, but otherwise, does it serve any purpose? I've got the truck apart for it's annual teardown, but I'm hoping to get it back together kind of quick because we're supposed to get a warm spell here! That, and I'm going to Atlanta next week for the holidays and I plan on taking it with me.

Thanks for the quick response! I appreciate it!

MW

I have heard it does not affect anything long term. The wires for the reverse servo will need to be rerouted but that is normal.

I took out my optidrive box that the servo's plug into, but I left the sensor in the trans. I just led the wire back to the receiver box and let the end lay there. I didn't feel like having another electronic thing to worry about getting wet, so I just removed it. The only thing it's for is to not shift if the trans is in motion...

IMO, if you can't figure out that throwing it in reverse while the truck is moving will break parts, your an idiot and shouldn't have the truck in the first place...

I thought the little mini reverse servo was kind of cool and I kind of like having reverse, so I still use it. It's just plugged into my 3rd channel directly now. I also have a failsafe that checks for low voltage, but my receiver works down to 3 volts. I think the failsafe kicks in at 4.2 or something like that though.

Yeah, I'm like you Olds. I also think the OptiDrive messes up my Venom failsafe. The Venom will temp. at close to 300 degrees and it's not shutting anything down, even though its set to 275. I shouldn't say shutting down, but rather limiting throttle.

Anyhow, thanks guys. It's off and staying off.

Smash it into little bitty pieces and send it to the OH lottery board! J/K you don't have to send it to them but smashing it is fun.
