What do you guys think is the better idea here, buying a second nicd receiver battery or going with a lipo receiver battery and a voltage regulator. Ones about $25 the other could be $70 to $100

How long are you running your truck between charges?
I can go quite a while on a charge, usually upwards of 6-8 tanks.....and that's without running the battery down.
I would get a good nimh with a higher capacity, then make sure it's getting charged fully. I don't know what charger you have, but some of the cheaper ones will false peak.

I can get 2 tanks on my Revo factory rx pack, but the rig sat for awhile.

If anything, I would just get 2 of the Traxxas 1200s, they are cheap and small.

I have a LiPo setup in my SC8 and I like that the voltage stays constant longer making the steering more consistent. I wouldn't have it if it cost me that much though,it was $20 for the regulator and I got the battery second hand for $15.

Overall for bashing,a second good NiMh battery would be the cheap but still decent way to go.

Lipos would definetely give you longer more consistent power, check out www.hobby partz.com they great prices on batteries and maybe a regulater too.

I'm getting 9 to 10 tanks then I notice the steering getting weak. I heard that the lipos well obviously give constant power and last long, but also will give more power to your servo is this true? I have a duratrax onyx 235 now but I was using the peak charger that comes with the losi nitro starters kit. Also the receiver pack came with the truck even if it didn't i would still have bought one.

If you dont have a lipo charger already Id buy RX packs and I would get them by bidding on them off of ebay. I've got about 5 NiMH straight packs and 4 NiMH hump packs between 1300 and 1400mah ea. and I dont think I ever paid more than about 10 or 12 bucks for one.

If you already have a lipo charger than I would get my regulator and gensacearespammers lipos from hobbypartz.com as mentioned above and run that for the reasons stated above. If I would have known you could do that back when I first got into the hobby 2 years ago and bought all these RX packs I might have gone that way :)
