Hello everyone, I am new here and would like to know your opinion. I have the HPI Nitro Rush and want to know which engine you would recommend. The HPI 18SS or the Traxxas TRX 2.5 racing engine. Thanks for your input.

Is there a reason you are only considering those two motors?

Of the two, I would say the 18ss is probably the more powerful, and you will hear many saying the 2.5r is hard to keep tuned, but I never have had a problem with the 2.5r that came with my Revo and T-Maxx.

The .18SS is what I would suggest by a long shot. More power and more reliable. Also, I think the 2.5R would require modifications to fit in a HPI car, they use different mounts than the normal small block engine.

No reason for those 2 engines except that my cousin ran 6 gallons of fuel thru his T-Maxx 2.5 and I liked the specs on the 18SS. Would you recommend something else? I am open for suggestions. I am thinking of racing at a couple local tracks in the next racing season. I dont want to go over $175.00. I have an OS .15 CV-X now.

Well the sickest .18 out there is teh .18TZ which puts out over 2 horsepower, but it is around $200. The .18SS is a decent motor, I am not all that impressed with my 2.5R but it is pushing a Revo.

I've heard good things about the Fantom FR engines, maybe take a look at the FR .18. You could go up to the .18CV-RX too.

I think its illegal to put a Traxxas mill in a Hpi isnt it? I heard they iternally combust..lol.. Between them two Id go with the 18ss by a long shot as well, but ya can never go wrong with a good O.s. mill.
