Ok here is the problem I'm running into. In the manual for the charger it says charging a 1500+ nimh battery should be done at 3 amps. But everywhere else I read I'm told that's too high. Why would they state that in the manual. And it says to charge 3000 mh nimh at 5 amps. And I've read elsewhere to go with 3 amps. So question is who is correct? Go with the setting that comes with charger? Or follow others advise. I'm just confused. Never used peak fast chargers. Just always used to go the 8 hour wall charger. So I'm a little lost. And most of my models were alway nitro so I just charged little recover packs. Thanks for any guidance guys. Cheers from canada eh!!

I have Onyx chargers and I have followed the manual and haven't had any problems.

I charge my 1600 mah rx packs with my Onyx 235 at 3amps. I think it usually takes 45 min. And I charge 5000 mah lipos on the same charger at 5 amps. They take about an hour. The thing is even if you set the charger at let's say 5 amps, it wouldnt use 5 amps the whole time. The charger will adjust the amp input as needed, up to the 5 amps that you set it to. Hope this helps.

Thanks. That helps out a lot. I will do the same. Thanks.

I would suggest using a temp sensor and a temp cut off of about 100F. if the charger stops charging because of the pack exceeding 100F then Id turn down the amperage. If I'm not in a hurry I usually charge my NiMH packs at about 1/2C or 1500mah at about 700-800 milliamps and a 3000mah at 1.5 amps. Keep pack temps down will extend the life of you packs. Lipos I charge at 1C if I'm not in a hurry.

I have the Onyx 235 charger and to me, the manual does not seem to be very well written. Is there a way to only trickle charge NiMH batteries or do I always have to go through the quick charge before trickle kicks in?

For example on page 6 http://manuals.hobbico.com/dtx/dtxp4235-manual.pdf it says to turn the S_Timer off for slow charge. But do I have to go through the quick charge first?

I just want to be able to trickle charge only.

Yes for that charger you need to go through quick/fast charge before trickle charge automatically starts. That's what I interpret from reading page 9 of the PDF.

OK, thanks. I have a radio pack that when I plug into the charger, it won't charge. I don't recall what the error message was. My hope was that I could trickle charge/discharge it to "bring it back to life" but I guess that the pack is toast.

Check your connections, my 235 told me something similar. it turned out to be one of the wires came loose on my balance board.
