onroad/offroad motors

I just bought an OFNA MBX R2. It came with 2 motors, both Picco .21. One has a purple head (he said was offraod) and the other is teal (he said was onroad). The Onroad motor is in the car now. Is there that much of a difference that I should switch the motors in the car? I would imagine that the onroad motor has less torque down low. Can I just change the gearing to get the low end power back?

I was thinking of going with the wheels and tires off the dominator in the future, so I planned on a gear change anyway.

Don't change the gearing, change the motor if you are going to running off road. Many differences between the on road and the off road, like how many ports they have, piston diameter, stoke length, among other things.

Thats what I thought. How difficult is it to swap out motors?

Is there something better than the Picco .21? I was thinking of maybe a Hyper .21 8 port? What would you suggest for just bashing. I doubt I will do any racing.

The on road will have more torque on the mid to upper part of the power band, and the opposite for the off road.

The Picco is a good solid engine. There are better ones out there but the ones you have are very well respected and considered a top shelf engine.

Picco makes a great engine!!! I would stick with that if the compression is still good. Changing out a buggy engine is almost exactly the same as any other nitro engine. You have 4 screws holding it to the chassis. You have a throttle linkage that has to be disconnect from the carb. You will need to disconnected the pipe and it comes right out.
