ok, I've taken my truggy right done to the bones, whats next?

ok, I've created a new thread for a reason, i want to ask everyone how to lube up my diffs. i think I'm ok with the rest of the car, but the only thing is that the instruction manuals that were supposed to be given to me dont exist!!!!!:mad: GRRRRR i hate that hobby shop so much I've never been back.

now back to the point, I've read that sealed diffs should be filled with silicone oil...weights, etc. i understand that stuff. the only thing I'm not too sure about it the 'sealed' bit. presuming from the shape of my gb and diff, i suspect it is not sealed, but i need to be sure. my dad took the camera today so I'm afraid i can't send pictures up yet. the diff i doubt is sealed; (from inside to out) theres the tapered gear, then a washer, the case and then thats were the drive cap connects to. the crown bevel and pinion gears are outside the diff housed in the gb. the gb holds a bearing on each side to support the latter mentioned drive cap. apart from what I've just stated, the rest of the things are sealed. there are no gaskets, no o-rings. you guys decide if its sealed or not.

if it is sealed, how much silicone oil should i put in? and if it isnt, what grease, should i put in, considering that oils have different weights, but greases rarely disclose the 'weights' (i know its difficult to measure anyway).

I'm testing the engine for leaks today.

edit: not testing. I'm gona get after run oil or caster oil to lube a few of the parts like the piston sleeve so then i dont need to block so many holes and makes its easier to test.

Its possible that they're not sealed but most likely they are. It will most likely be a black plastic case that the larger gear is mounted to inside the diff and the drive cups come out of. Post up some pics and we can give you much better advice. Or someone may know that exact model. I found what I think is their website and you may be able to e-mail them and get a manual.

As for the oil completely fill it with whatever weight you choose. and for the outer non sealed portion of the diff Mobil 1 synthetic grease is a great choice.

yeah i know the website for my truck; its the sinyih 1097 4WD 'truck' but sinyih is taiwanese and i aint exactly flash with my mandarin... hehehe so i dont think they'll be much use. I've sent them an enquiry anyway.

as with the team fasteddy, my brand is not popular enough to be on their site. be sending picts in about 24-48 hours time.

The portion of the assembly in the first three shots should be the sealed portion. For the weights I'm assuming that what you have pictured is the center diff?? For a base line I'd try 3K rear 5K mid and 1K forward and see how she handles. The higher the weight of the oil the thicker it is and the more it will act like the diff is locked so you'll get more of a positraction feel.
And yeah more threads about the same thing does cork it up and make it hard to find the backround you need to answer the question intelligently:wtf: Don't worry its all good, we'll try and get ya up and running.

lol.... yeah i was just getting a little worried you guys abandoned me :drink:.

but theres not washers to seperate the inner gears of the diff and the drive cap and I'm afraid if i fill it with oil, its going to come out through the output shaft opening of the diff housing. theres also no o-rings as i stated before.
 
hmm well in a typical sealed diff there would be an o ring around each of the drive cups where they go in either side and a gasket under where the large gear bolts to the plastic housing...... If there's no way to seal it then oil isn't going to do a whole lot of good. Are there any recesses where an o-ring could go like as an option part possibly, its hard to tell from that one pic of the inside of it. I guess for now just throw in some grease. Maybe a little thicker then the mobil 1, like penzoil all purpose marine grease or the like, it will get you going at least but may not be ideal.
