i picked up a used ofna .21 8 port engine .. but i don't know if it is the turbo version of this engine .. i believe it is .... how can i tell ?? also if it is a turbo do i need to use a turbo plug ???

i have no experience in the turbo engines ..... thanks !!!

also is there an exploded view of this engine somewhere on the web ??? and factory settings for it ??

thanks again !!!!!!

What color is the head?? If it is purple then is is just the regular 8 port. Also as far as I know there is not a "turbo" version of this engine just a "race" (non-pullstart) version which has a silver head but, it my be a "turbo" head !

Ofna is not real good with the manulas but, this is for the Hyper 8 port.

the head is purple ... but when i took the back plate off ... it looked like a turbo fan behind the crankshaft ... i have never seen this in an engine until this one ....

it is a normal head....when heads are called "turbo" heads all it means is that it has a certain taper to the head where the glow plug goes in. Its not a turbo like a 1:1 car like your thinking. The back plate is a little odd on this engine, but it isn't a turbo.

ok .... then what plug should i use in it ??? and what is that "fan" that goes in behind the crankshaft ???

The engine you are describing is indeed a standard, non-turbo Hyper .21 8-Port. Ofna recommends using long plugs in that engine...no idle bar on the plug.

As for the "fan" looking thing, I believe that is more of a pump style fitting that assists in fuel flow through the crank casing. I'd have to look it up to verify the actual part nomenclature and function, but rest assured it has nothing to do with any turbo-related function.

you got a # on a plug ??? like the os #8 or the a-5 ????

i don't know enough about the plugs yet ... still learning that ...

thanks again !! appreciate the help alot !!!!!!

its a #8 long with no idle bar. I'm preatty sure there is a turbo version on this motor. All that the Turbo means is that its ported different.

theres a race version which comes with pullstart but are rare.

THis is the Mill that I have 8 Port Race

On the Box it says " Turbo" It isn't. Andrew and Chris say that it use a Long Plug not a Turbo plug. The Box is confusing like there "Torsen "diff that is really a "spider" Diff.

I recently bought a 8-port to and both 8ports come with a "tubro Fan" in side the engine. from what i know its supost to act like an impeller and generate more rpms:flamer:

I have never seen that engine. I have seen the fan that goes on the backplate. I have no experience on this but it does look interesting.

The pull start version comes with the fan. The bump start version does not have a fan in it. The hyper 8 port I had never had the fan in it, zandor22 had the pull start in his and it had the fan. We would run together all the time and the difference between the two was minimal, The fan is suppose to help with moving the fuel thru to burn better, but its pretty much a gimmick and they push it as a turbo. But regardless the Hyper 8 port is a nice mill for the price and it came scream.

Not to derail the thread but what is an idle bar?

It is a small shield across the filament opening to stop neat fuel splashing onto the filament and causing a flame-out. Typically seen on aero engines, rarely used on car engines.

I got a pair of Ofna/picca .26s and I believe that they suggest a long plug also but I got a rookie question... what's an idle bar on a plug?

there you go lessen

i think an idle bar is (hard to explain) but a peice that goes over the coil on the glow plug
