i got my 3.3 engine a couple days ago and i just went out and got an engine mount today. i started the traxxas break in method and on the end of the fourth tank the engine revved real high for a second then went down. i stopped the truck and hit the throttle but it wouldnt move. i looked over everything and it was all fine. i pulled apart my tranny and i found stripped and cracked teeth all on this one gear. i searched ebay and found that its the input shaft gear but i can't find one for my old style tranny... can anyone help?

Thanks,
Austin

Afraid to say it man but.....you changed to a 3.3 engine. You're gonna need to upgrade some parts. Either that or get used to breaking n replacing stuff. U should get the 3.3 tranny. I almost went with the 3.3 but I knew id have to swap out parts. I stayed with the 2.5r.

yea i knew i was gonna break stuff with the 3.3. I'm gonna stick with the 2.5 tranny cuz everyone says its strong enough with an FOC.

oh and i found the part number of the gear on traxxas.com and i typed that into ebay search and found the gear. 6 bucks, not bad. gonna order it tonight

Cool.....yea I got the 2.5 tranny and just installed foc in it. This truck is crazzzzzzyyyyy!!!!! Let er rip!!!!!;)

yep. this 3.3 engine is amazing. and I'm not even done breaking it in! doin a good job breaking it in, i want it to last a long time.

You're doing the right thing. Don't forget to do after run. maintenence. And you probably already know this but, keep your air filter clean!!!!! Lol. You'll get tons of life outta your new engine.

i put after run in before i even fired it up. just to give some extra lubrication. when i got done with it i cleaned the engine out with wd40 and put more after run in it. gonna clean the air filter after i finish break in. i ALWAYS keep on top of maintenance, thats how i got 5 years out of my 2.5 engine

Good deal. Sounds like you're on top of things. Good luck with the rest of your break-in. Enjoy that 3.3! It's fast!!!!!

Remember to always take the piston out of the pinch every time you shut the engine off. Rotate the flywheel to the loosest spot. A couple drops of after run in the cylinder and the carb, with a few seconds of cranking, is all you need to do when your done for the day.

Normally that's referred to as BDC (bottom dead center). With the piston at the lowest point in the sleeve, it allows the top portion of the sleeve to contract as it cools. Or that's the theory behind it.

In 10 years, I've always done it, so I don't know what it does when you don't. ;) I average 9+ gallons a pinch before the sleeve needs resized.

A pinch thread if you want to read/know what a "pinch" is:

The sleeve inside your engine is tapered. Small at the top, wider at the bottom. That's why they say your piston can get stuck at top dead center. If that happens, its "pinched" in the sleeve. Just turn your flywheel clock-wise, (looking at your truck from behind), and it'll "unstick". When the piston is at bottom dead center, the flywheel will be easy to turn. That's where ya want it after putting after run in it.

The point is to keep the piston out of the pinch when the engine is in the process of cooling. It doesn't matter where it's at once it's cooled. The sleeve will cool and clamp onto the piston, possibly compromising the life of the pinch. The piston and sleeve are made of different materials, which will cool at and contract at different rates.
1. Shut engine off.
2. Immediately move the piston out of the pinch or to your bdc mark(if you've found bdc and marked it on the flywheel).
3. Do your after run maintenance.
