Could someone explain the differnce between an O.S CV-R and a O.S. TR .. Which would which would be better for a XXX-NT.

i actually would like to know the same exact thing.

also, does the TR take turbo plugs or regular? for some reason i thought i saw somewhere they were turbo.

jerkap - the tr will put out slightly more power than the CVR - and it is also rear exhaust. the cv-r is slowly being phased out.

banshee - their are two versions of the tr. the regular 3port TR, and the 5port TR Turbo. the 5port takes a turbo plug

Part of the info from Nitroaddict is not accurate!
The OS .12 CV-R IS NOT A REAR EXHAUST it is a side exhaust.

Being phased out, I don't think so, here is a blurb on the 2003 model.

This is an entirely new engine and its parts are uniquely designed for it. Nothing is interchangeable between the CV and CV-R Engines. (Tower Hobbies)

I run both the OS .12 cv-r and the .12 tr in my XXX-NT you will find they both work well.

Long story short, if you need top end the TR is your choice, for low end the CV-R will be the one you are looking for.

Both engines are OS and easy to tune both will over power your XXX-NT. (Just the way we like it) :clap:

my words may not have been clear. i meant that the TR put out slightly more power than the cvr, and it is rear exhaust. the tr, not the cv-r.

Just wanted to keep it clear, Nothing is worse than ordering the wrong header.

You mentioned they were phasing it out. Can you point me somewhere that talks about that? It seems after putting time and money into an all new design that they would want to keep it around for a while. I may be wrong and would like to know more. I'm an OS fan and try to keep up with the news.

eddy - u are misunderstanding my entire post.

1. the TR is replacing the CV-R. the TR is rear exhaust, the CVR is side exhaust

2. OS Max has plans, so i have been told from third party sources, to phase out the CV-R .12, not the CVR .15, or the TR

OS has redesigned .12 CV-R.
Just this year they made several changes.
Your saying they are now phasing out the .12 CV-R?
If you can find some info on that I would love to see it.

Here is the blurb from Towerhobbies on the .12 CV-R

This is the OS Max .12CV-R (P) Car/Buggy Engine with #10C Slide Valve Carburetor and a Pilot Shaft Crankshaft.
It has the same mounting and muffler dimensions as the regular .12CV. The manufacturer has changed the warranty coverage on this engine. It is now covered by a 2-year manufacturer warranty.

This is an entirely new engine and its parts are uniquely designed for it. Nothing is interchangeable between the CV and CV-R Engines.

eddy the blurb u quoted from tower is several years old. the only update to it, is when the TR came out, OS included a new warrenty on the cv-r since it has been downgraded from a race engine to a sport engine, and only the race engines dont get warranties. the TR is now the 'race' engine.
