all right fellas, I gots a little question for you.

I am thinking about getting a ntc3. I know, good choice. My LHS(which I would like to support) has one in stock, but it is the pull start, side exhaust version. My question is: What does it take to convert it to rear exhaust bumb start if I decided to go that route in the future?

For right now, it would see most of its time in the parking lot, but I am interested in racing in the future(like when I learn to drive).

What are the pros and cons of the pull start version?

Thanks

congrats on looking at the greatest car!!!!! I LOVE MINE!

Okay - i too got the pullstart version, as when i purchased it, i had an OPS .15 to put into it. After a while i got a new Rossi .12 and it is not a pull start, and its rear exhaust. the only thing u really have to do, is get the rear exhaust pipe and header. if the mill u have isnt rear exhaust then u need to do nothing to convert it to bump start. The reason why is that the PS flywheel is big enough to reach a starter box on the PS mounts.
=========================
Here are the differences between the two kits.
-----------------------------------------------------------
exhaust pipe
exhaust header
engine mounts
flywheel
exhaust pipe mounting wire
------------------------------------------------------------
The benifits to the new mounts is to lower the CG of the car, which is helpful when racing, but u wont really notice it when bashing. the new flywheel must be used with the non-ps mounts, as the ps flywheel is too big, and will protrude from the chassis.

Please keep in mind, that if the engine u plan to install is a rear exhaust, then u have to get the NON-PS kit, other wise u will have to drop an additional 60.00 on a new pipe and header, and that would suck.

HOORAY!!!! Another NTC3 family member!

cool, so it really isn't a big difference. I am thinking about getting the car and putting a pull start engine in it to start with, but I know that eventually I will want to race and will want to go rear exhaust/bumb start. I wanted to make sure that I wasn't screwing myself.

The one thing with pullstart engines is that it's a pain to start because the pullstart is located towards the center of the car. It's fine if you start it without the body, but with the body, it'll be very difficult and the string will rub and eventually break.

Also, I personally like starter boxes way better than bump starts. If you go non pullstart spend a lil extra and get a starter box you won't regret it.

Oh and if you ever upgrade your chassis, don't get a golden horizon chassis. The screws that hold on the motor mount are a bigger size than factory so you have to use the motor mount that comes with the chassis which is a non ps motor mount. That means if you're running pullstart, it won't work

I forgot about that - that is a very strong point. man does it suck to pull start it with the body on.

but to start out with, if u dont want the initial investment of the box, its not that big of a deal

Oh yeah, when u build the kit, don't even bother installing the handle. It's a waste of space and weight. Totally useless

Thanks for the info fellas. I still need to convince the wifey that a new ride is a good idea.

no prob, dave - u have helped me a million times, lemmi know if there is anything else i can do to help.

i started off with the RTR version, then i added a couple thing, my arm got tired, and made mine into a bump start, but it is still side, i am looking at goin rear, i know it will fit, but for now it is fast enough, until i get a fail safe, i lost my radio signal, and luckly i was going slow. until the fail safe, i am keeping it safely in my house.

I just got approval from the war department (the wife) to purchase a new car, well maybe not approval, but she didn't freak out when I said I was going to get one, that is in my book approval...:radio:

Hopefully you read this before you get it.

If you plan on converting to a bump start rear exhaust down the road, just buy the right kit from the word go. Will save you money at the end of the day.

The 2041 kit (I'm recalling this off my head so double check) is a 2 speed, 4wd, shaft drive, bump start and rear exhaust kit. Requires electrics, mill and body. The only 1 change I made in the beginning was a bearring kit for the steering. Then after I did some 'bling' hopups with Hardcore Racing gear. But not mandatory.

The OFNA MultI start box is perfect for the car. You just have to switch the motor and wheel to the back of the box before you put it together. DONT get an RTR box, just more to take apart and put back together. 12v gell cell and skip the power panel. Waste of money IMO.

The Team kit kicks ass and was worth every penny to me. This car is a dream to drive.

Hope this helps!
