I found the refurb section on the Novak sight and figured I would give it a try, I picked up a Goat crawler system for $130.00 shipped! The cheapest one I found was $100.00 but in very big letters it said AS IS!!!! I did find a few working ones for $120.00 and up but this is for a used unit with no warranty, the refurb comes with a 120 day warranty for around the same price!


Anybody else buy something from their refurb section before?
 
Not from Novack, anyway. Usually the manufacturers offer a warranty on their refurbs like the one you're talking about. I've usually had good luck with other companies so I can't see where you would have a problem. Just make sure that you run the heck out of it immediately to see if it's gonna go bad.
 
The goat system showed up today, I got it installed and it ran for almost a minute then the esc whet up in smoke! When I unplugged the battery the plug was warm so I broke out the meter...The battery wires on the esc have a dead short! I checked the battery and it seems to be ok. I reinstalled the trusty Rooster with the same pack and it works flawlessly. Now I have to wait who knows how long for it to be replaced.
 
Damn! I was hoping that it would work so I could get a new set-up for my SCX-10.
 
I called Novak on thursday and they recieved my esc/motor on the 20th, they won't get a chance to check it until mid to late next week....I'm not impressed!
 
thats what you get for buying novak. I have burnt up their high end GTB which they said was impossible. It actually started smoking really bad and by the time i got it out, the orange plastic was gooey. Their HV setup also died on me. I stalled the goat system on 2S with my artr.

Anyways, their dept will more than likely tell you that there is no way to tell who was at fault but they will replace it for a fee. More than likely it will be more than what you saved by buying it used instead of new and they will replace it with another refurb.

I have burnt castle stuff before too but their customer service is great.

I have always liked Novak but if this is what i'm told it will be the last novak I ever buy...Which would suck because I don't like the castle stuff for something slow, they are not as smooth at slow speed.

That or change your gearing and run some decent voltage to it.
 
Certainly not very impressive. You put your trust into their quality control department when you purchase a refurb and they put you off for a week? That's not good for business if you ask me.

IMO, a refurb is no different than a used part. If I can't buy a refurb for less than 60% retail it's not worth it.

I spoke to novak today and they are replacing the motor and esc under warranty, the only bad thing is that they won't have a motor in stock until next week.
 
Well, that's fairly good news then. At least they're not charging to replace it.
