I was running my Maxx with the DYN big block conv. this afternoon and my motor HPI .25 started to bog real heavy so like true warrior I pulled the gas even harder and that was it. It stopped and seized up and when I took it apart the bottom of the connecting rod had blown out. The crank was ripped out of the hole. WHat do you think caused this? It was a motor I got used through a trade not a big deal but I've been racing 1/8 for 6 year and have never seen nothing like this before.

I'd suspect chronic over-revving or chronic overheating. That's my guess....

when I took apart the motor and put it back together maybe I could have installed the pistion and con rod in backwards. I have the oil groove that is cut into the con rod facing towards the clutch end of the motor?

I have seen that happen before from lack of lubrication, meaning running too lean. In cold weather you have to richen the mixture, plus you want to adjust it to run cooler, say 200 instead of 250 in the summer.

I believe the oil groove is supposed to be facing the clutch end of the motor so that sounds like it was put together right. I still suspect some other problem. As Scott mentioned, could be that composite lean/overheating/underlubricated problem. Or as I said before, sustained high rpms can cause all sorts of stress to the conrod. Since you said the engine was used when you got it, there's no way to tell what treatment it got before it got to you.
