Ok guys I'm going to get burnt for this I can tell already but...

A friend of mine is going to make a track at his house. I dont have the money to buy a truggy or buggy right now SO what can I do to my savage to make it track/race worthy?

3-Speed tranny. Raising CB teeth and lowering spur teeth. Those are some things to get you started. You can also get lighter things like CB TVP's, but they will scratch. Use thicker oil in the front and less in the rear.

What about lowering? I was thing more like suspension mods. What oil do you suggest?

I don't really want to give advice on this cause a large percentage of my knowledge came from you, but you could get a savage X conversion kit thing I'm pretty sure that is lower than the stock savages.

He already has a Savage X.

For shock oil, 30wt should be fine with stock springs. For racing, I run 10,000 up front, & 20,000 in the rear for differential oil. If you want to keep all 8 shocks and adjust your ride height, use fuel tubing on the inside of the shock shaft to limit the amount of ride height. This will make it lower.

Ya I was planning on the fuel tubing. The shocks that are on it are the black stock ones. i think I will take off the plastic spacers. That should help with travel and handling. I was planning on the 30wt. What about more or bigger piston holes in the shocks?

Yeah, that should also help. Bigger holes help the oil inside travel through and out faster. I wouldn't make the holes bigger than 3mm though.

Edit: 3mm is huge. 2mm is large enough xD.

Green HPI springs on all 4 rear shocks with 35 wt oil.
Only use one shock per side on the front, with black springs and 45 wt. oil. Install 3/8" limiters in all the shocks, fuel tubing works good.
This will give the Savage a lot more turning ability.
Set the ride height arms level to the ground.
Gearing, go for acceleration not top speed.

Look into Fast Lane Machine for lowered CG TVPs. Just make sure you don't order them through Addicted2RC.
FLM uses many other distributors, but he's the pits.

lighter = faster

a three speed would be nice, but on a short track you will never see third.

i liked the rc ravens tripple rate springs on my savage, i think rcboys sells them to.

take the spacers out and move the shocks to where the arms are as close to level as possible

putting oil in the diffs will help as well. not sure what weight as i never raced , but i know going from grease to oil made a BIG difference.

the stock shocks are good, but as stated may need different weight oil in them. the truck should have came with different shock piston heads with different hole sizes and numbers of holes.

better tires will really help to. wide low profile tires will make the truck corner alot better. if its a groomed track get some pins or dogbones.

what steering servo do you have?

I just installed the hitec 645MG on my steering and put the sf-2 on my throttle. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Thanks for all the advice guys! Keep it coming!

Diffs, 10-20K in rear. Front 30-50K.
Tires 1/2" offset Bowties or Crimefighters will work just about anywhere. LPR's offer more steering response vs. standard monster truck sizes.

You mean fluid in the diff cups? They don't have seals... wont it leak out?

Man I can't wait to see some of these mods on your savage. Thing should run like a champ on the track!

it seals, should have some paper seals that go between the cup and the ring. or you can use rtv.

Ya they were all messed up and when I got the bevel gears they didnt have any i noticed but i figured it wouldnt matter much since it was just grease in it. Anyone got a part number for the seals??? Thanks guys.
