I am brand new to nitro. I have read numerous tuning guides but none of them mention my possible problem.

I have a rc10gt2 and I see smoke from acceleration all the way to near top speed but when it hits top speed/rpm, I do not see any more smoke (or very little). I was wondering if this is typical or should I be worried about running too lean? It doesn't seem to matter if I richen up the high speed needle, I still do not get very much smoke at top rpm/speed.

Thanks.

some fuel and the differance in oils used and the oils percentage will varry the amount of smoke you do get. typically on top RPMS most of all the fuel us being used and if your getting smoke then your gettign luberication.

do some High speed runs and bring it back immediatly after the high speed run and check your temps just next to the glow plug on the head. if your under 280ish or so. you should be good. ir your over 280 i do recommend just a bit richer so you can keep the temps under 280. after a good warm up and some hish speed runs, most y motors were around 250 to 260. idle around 190 to 200.

ofcourse this isnt set in stone, but only a guide. i tune off the motors performance and use the temps as a gauge.

what fuel and what % are you running?

I am running 20% nitro, 18% oil. I am at about 6000 ft above sea level.

I don't know my temps for sure. A water drop boils off in about 4-5 seconds after a hard WOT run. Maybe I am too rich. Its spitting out a bit of fuel from the exhaust at full rpms. Occasionally it will flood (cannot pull start until I drain the excess fuel). Its happened twice and both times were right after I let it run out of fuel

My HSN is only about 1/4 a turn leaner(clockwise) than the factory setting. I did not adjust my LSN since all the tests for that setting passed.

I'll keep messing with it until I get it right.

Don't adjust the LSN if you have a good idle and a good takeoff. It sounds like everything is just about right, other than the HSN is a little on the rich side. Never do any major adjustments or you'll have a hard time finding the spot where it ran at all. Treat the HSN like a clock, and only turn it in one hour. (1/12 of a turn) Then run it till it's up to temp, see how it performs, check your temps and make another slight adjustment if necessary.
At 6000 feet, it's looking for oxygen, just like the tourists.
