I stripped my primary gear the other day. Bought a new one, installed it, now my truck won't shift into second. The the truck will wind up fine but it just won't shift. I did follow traxxas exploded view as a guide and didn't end up with left over pieces.

I did'nt, just replaced the two gears and put it back together

Weird. I'd pull it back apart and check to make sure you got it together right. Depending on what you took off to replace the gears, you may have put the shifting disk in backwards. This would obviously cause shifting problems. It's the silver thing with the little leg that swings out. It has 1 set screw and 1 trans adjust screw in it.

GREMLINS

I took it all apart and for the life of me I could not see the shift set screw , so I took that apart and the shift set screw ( which I have never touched b4)was laying side ways, came all the way out and was just laying there. I swear my truck was built on a friday.
btw the spurgear should spin freely and in both directions right?

If you have a forward ONLY conversion in it then no. It will only spin one way freely and the other way it will engage the drive train.

I took it out and ran it and still no second gear. I have no idea how far in or out the set screw should be, tried a dozen times yesterday. The book says check after each 1/16 of a turn, yeah right. Anyone make a complete trans replacement?

I had the same problem when I rebuilt my tranny. It turned out to be a loose slipper clutch.

No, I wish there was though.

You could try backing the screw out allot and it will be stuck in 2nd gear, then screw it in a little at a time until first catches. I really don't remember. But if you mess with it too much, the threadlock that you should have put on the set screw won't keep it in place even if you do get it to work right.

When I first messed with mine a year or so ago, I had backed it out so far that it was permanently stuck in second. Talk about a clutch eater!

Replaced trans, the gearing is spot on. Snatching second like it should. Problem, 2nd high speed pass, flipped and ripped the motor off and tore the carb in half. Should I get an upgraded on or I is the stock one ( for $39 ) is good enough?!
