how hot is too hot and what can overheating do?
Somewhere around 240, give or take a bit, is the temp range that most of these engines perform well in, and get a long lifetime. Some years back, I had a .15 max that ran very well, but ALWAYS at 285. Some engines do well in the upper range.
If the engine is set too lean, one of the reasons it overheats is due to lack of lube in the fuel. The obvious problem is premature wear.
