ok

I've just started running 20% synthetic fuel in my tmaxx (with the trx 2.5) and at factory settings, its showing symtoms of being rich, but there is no blue smoke?

if i lean the hsn an 1/8th of a turn it revs like its lean (or could this be better performance fuel I'm using?)

lastly, my temp gauge is stuck at 94.4 F....could this be that the battery is dead?

thanks

Whats the brand of the fuel?
Get a new battery or new temp gun.

It's normal to have to re-tune after a fuel brand change or % change.
Always tune from rich to lean, never the other way around.

You definately want to see smoke. You say it shows symptoms of running rich, what are these symptoms? If you are unsure what you are looking for sometimes the symptoms can be difficult to distinguish between lean and rich. But the lack of smoke leads me to believe you are already way too lean. A working temp gun is a vital tool in helping to distinguish if you are indeed too rich or too lean, so get it working or get a new one asap.

cna you reccomend a good, but cheap temp gun?

I'm using the traxxas on board one at the moment and i never really trust it.

A cheap gun is better than no gun. The cheaper gun might not be as precise, but it's at least in the ball park.
Go back to factory settings, and go from there.
Do you have smoke at all?
You say it acts rich...explain please.

it like bog's, but now i think about it that could be fuel starvation.

I'm at factory settings, and theres faint white smoke.

as it goes onto the high speed needle.

theres no smoke at low end.

Richen the LS needle an 1/8 of a turn, run it up the street and back.
Do this over and over until you see good smoke on the low end.
HS might need a little richening too.
Do the HS at a 16th at a time because it sounds like your close.

Rich is counter clockwise, lean is clockwise. (just incase you didn't know)

Radio Shack sells a small temp gun that works well for around $29 - $39 depending if it's on sale or not. The pc board in that unit is also made by Raytek.

That bogging you think you are getting could very well be fuel starvation.

the fuel I'm using is flair car hotshot mix.

i have found it impossible to tune it!

as soon as I'm getting decent performance the temps are through the roof (300 F +! at this point i stop the car)

there isnt much blue smoke but it gets hot very quick even at idle.

the model shop gave me this fuel because they had ran out of my usual fuel (model techics 25%)

i have emailed the store and asked them if they can help me because I've got allmost a gollon of this stuff left! and i can't afford to just throw 24 pounds (42 dollars) away!

i really starting to loathe this 2.5 engine. i might just sell it and get a sav 25!

thanks

Wow!!! $42 a gallon! I thought I had it bad when I was paying $31 here in the states!

Do you know what oil percentage your fuel has in it? The 20% usually means nitro...

Mega have you been changing the needles
cuz i remeber some smoke coming from the exhaust when you put the first 2 tanks of 20% through it

ahh, but when i tried it with those needle settings we set them to. it was running WAY too lean.

even running really rich theres only a faint amout of blue smoke.

I'm just gonna go back to model tech 25 as it was out dragging your sav!

just to let people know what has happend.

my lhs has said that they will let me have a gallon of model tech 25% for free!:breakdown

because apparently he was going to test the fuel, because he was going to sell it in the shop.

so i ended up a test dummy, and so he is not going to sell it in the shop.

thanks

i was just reading through this and i was thinking, you might want to check for an air leak somewhere. i've seen the same symptoms when that happens. just in case the fuel doesn't fix the problem, that is.

now i thought of that.

but it has no air leaks....its just the fuel.

i did notice why my temps were high with the model tech fuel.....my carb wasn't seating properly:opps: sorted now temps lowered about 20 degrees but it still has no blue smoke and runs too hot.

ah, well glad you got it figured out. that sucks that you had to be the test dummy. i did that once, and the fuel i tested didn't have any oil in it at all. they told me it was just a manufacturing mistake, but that didn't help pay for the new piston, sleeve, and bearings i needed.

it was only beating the sav for the first 2 metres then it was level i also rememeber mine wasn't hitting 3rd on the 3 speed
