Hi, just got my new ntc3 and have been trying to start it, but it won't idle continously. there is no air leak on the pipe. I didn't see any crack or leak on the tank. but still it reaches over 300 in temp when it idles. I think that there is a leak. i can't find it. This would also be the first time for me to deal with a rotary carb engine. I can't seem to find the problem.
HELP please...
thanks

check your fuel lines and seal the backplate and carb. Do these things and then try to start it out. Use RTV silicone to do the sealing.

Air leaks are notorious and can be hard to find.

Buy some carb cleaner or even just nitroblast. Spray one area at a time (LSN, HSN, Behind the flywheel, backplate, round the base of the carb, under the heatsink) while the engine is running.

When you spray that area and it dies, that's where your airleak is. Also, just for good measure, replace the fuel and pressure line. Give about 8 inches on the pressure line. Each engine will react differently to different lengths, even those of the same brand and model. If you found the leak and are tuning the engine and it won't give you a good tune, reduce the pressure line by 1/2 inch and try again. Don't cut it too short or you will get pulsing in the tank and you will get erratic results and a bad tune.

Damn it diver I forgot your cool advise from a different thread. I am going to have to try that when I come up with a twitchy engine.

damn, this thing is brand new! and it won't run continously. the temp rises up to 300's. i tried to pressure test the pipe and to the engine and i didn't see any leak.
is the stock .12 engine of the ntc3 is poopy?

you probably have an airleak and it's not in the pipe. Try what I suggested, you probably have an air leak it's just a matter of finding it

ok. thanks. i'll buy the carb cleaner tomorow, but the problem is it really won't run continously. But I'll try to do that.
Thanks!
:)

Have to ask what are your HSN and LSN set at..Or have you touched them???

DIVER I love the new sig...But it should show jeff burtons car...

Ok, I just noticed that you are still breaking it in. An engine that is still in the process of being broken in will have trouble idling because it's being run so rich. ALSO, when you take the temp, just make sure you're reading the temp when it's pointed at the glowplug or around it.

Also, as stated in the AE manual for their .12 engine, they specify a rolling breakin, no idle. That might also explain why you're getting such a high temp at idle. The cooling fins don't provide much surface to adequately cool it staying still. Read the Engine manual or download it by clicking HERE

Follow their specs for break in. I always follow manufacturers breakin proceedures on RTR cars. For the higher priced engine's, the process get's more tedious, but works for me.
