Nitro Rustler diff/trans problem

On my 2.5 nitro rustler I'm haveing problems with my rear wheels locking up. Any time I let off my throttle at any speed my rear wheels will lock up and cause the car to skid out of control. With the car off the ground I can turn one wheel and the other side will turn in opposite direction freely but if I try and spin both the wheels in the same direction at the same time it is really tight. Is this a sign of the bell clutch being bad or something else?

hmm...it should be tight when turning both wheels the same direction...at least i would think...seems you would be turning the motor if you turn both wheels so that sounds right to me...i had a similar problem just the other day...my problem was when i would release the throttle my truck was applying a tiny amount of brake....i adjusted the linkage a bit and its good to go now...try working the servo back and forth and check out all your linkage...

Check the brake throttle/brake trim on the remote, if it's good check the brake linkage, if both are good make sure the mesh between the clutchbell and spur gear isn't too tight.

^+1^ For Schrode. It sounds as if your brake trim is set to high or your linkage is way to tight

How do you check the gear mesh, and how would you adjust it?

In order to change it on the Rustler you will loosen the 4 outer bolts on the engine mount, this will allow the engine to slide.

Well I finally got around to setting the gear mesh on my rustler and wow that made a huge difference on how it ran. It was WAY to tight.

Before doing that I also replaced the slipper pegs in the gear and that also made a big difference on how it ran.

Congrats, I bet it's a little "quicker" being as the mesh was tight. The Rustler is a great platform for a basher, they are small and light enough that it doesn't take much to make them bullet proof. Let us know if you have any more questions and once you start doing upgrades.
