That's a much better idea than buying an off-brand RC that may or may not have any aftermarket support.

Not really, made from pretty cheap materials, stick with your stampede or the main hobby brands ( HPI, LOSI, Associated, Traxxas, etc.) They are much better for aftermarket parts as well and will hold up much longer.

I never thoght Id say this but.....after going out and doing some homework I've been studying up on Redcats.....particularly the rampage (their 1/5 scale buggy), the Rockslide (Their giant crawler although its supposedly 1/8 scale), and the twister (their 2WD 1/10 scale buggy kinda like a B4.1) and to my surprise Redcat has apparently stepped up their game quite a bit over the last year or so and their part support is continuing to grow from what I was reading. All three of the above kits got good reviews from some pretty unbaised sources. Squirrel and Jang being two of the more well known. So it looks like for now I can stop bashing redcats quite so bad and watch them more closely and see if they continue to improve their QC stndards. They still arent race quality but it looks like theyre finally starting to compete and in some cases even surpass Traxxas

Unfortunately their crawler doesn't have much in the way of competition support. It falls in the super category that most comps don't offer.

i am actually workin on a Caldera right now for a friend. Seems as though they left the slipper loose and melted it. So while i had it i took apart and sealed the engine and cleaned the carb. Was some surface rust inside so i rinsed it with wd-40 and seams to be running good. Motor sounds pretty snotty but the stearing and other things seem quite cheap.imo..

The only redcat i have had any luck with is my xtg pro brushless version as for the volcanos the have alot of issues with the diffs not being shimmed right there is alot of slapping going on in there my buddy had bought the rampage xt first 2 days fun fast big machine now now spark on engine out of the blue they wont stand behind there word on replacement parts within so many days so i went to traxxas had a few issues with it and they sent the parts no ?s asked....
