I know it's been pretty obvious for a while now that the popularity in Nitro RC has been decreasing- more as peoples interest in technology grows less and less people care about the mechanical side of things. Just out of curiosity I was looking on google trends for the search term "Nitro RC" and these are the results:

Check it out for yourself here: https://www.google.co.uk/trends/explore#q=Nitro RC
As for electric RC:

Again, we see a decrease- so I think it's fair to say that the popularity of both is declining due to lack of interest in real toys, not just smart phones and tablets. And just to see, here's the result for toys:

All those spikes are in December- probably the most text book answer you can get...

It may of been done before but I just thought I'd show you- pretty interesting I think.

And then for "well that escalated quickly"

It's also rather interesting that Tennessee is the 4th most common place in the U.S for the search term "Carnauba wax" @Rolex and there was also a huge spike in popularity in 2004- when you joined the forum...

Funny thing is, activity on this forum has dropped off almost 70% since June of 2014, when YOU joined. :D
Don't you mean activity for the whole of the hobby?

These graphs really don't tell much of a story in my opinion. These are only showing search trends from a single search engine using some very generic phrases. When I'm doing a search for any nitro or electric RC I can't recall a single time I've included the phrase "nitro rc" or "electric rc", but instead look like "Losi 5ive" or "HPI Savage" - it's model specific.

True, but it generally shows that interest in Nitro RC as a whole hobby is dying down, yes, the graphs may not show everything but it gives us an idea that the hobby isn't as popular as it used to be. It shows that less and less new people, who may see one in a park and talk to whoever owns it, to then research later, are becoming interested and researching it when they get home. It's a vicious circle- the people who have been into it for a long time might lose interest or give up the hobby, so less and people are seeing them, so less and less new people are becoming interested and therefore becoming knowledgeable on the subject so that they are able to help other users. What you said is true, but it does show that interest in the hobby in general is dying down.

And on a side note, searches for HPI, Ofna and losi are decreasing.
Ofna: https://www.google.co.uk/trends/explore#q=Ofna
Losi: https://www.google.co.uk/trends/explore#q=Losi RC (not as much, but in recent years it has applied)
HPI: https://www.google.co.uk/trends/explore#q=HPI racing

Here's Hyper 7 RC: https://www.google.co.uk/trends/explore#q=Hyper 7 RC (A few holes in results but generally going down)
And HPI savage: https://www.google.co.uk/trends/explore#q=HPI Savage

Again you're doing incredibly random and unrealistic searches? Who and why is someone searching for "Losi RC" or "HPI Racing"? Now if you did searches like "Losi 5ive" or "HPI Baja" that would make sense. On the flip side if you look at your trends of "Nitro RC" and "Electric RC" and then add "RC" you'll see RC far and away more higher than those two and pretty consistent pattern.

These graphs don't tell much of the story and even less with the unrealistic phrases in my opinion.

I wouldn't call them unrealistic by any stretch, I think you're misinterpreting my point. I'm not saying that people who have been in the hobby are losing interest, I'm saying that less and less children and adults are becoming interested and finding out more about the hobby, thus the reason I included Nitro RC and larger brands. Also, if they're new they're not going to know about the Losi 5ive or HPI baja are they? Anyways, they're not going to be commonly searched for because they are large scale RC's way out of many peoples price range, and, for the HPI baja, interest has dropped over the past few years too:
https://www.google.co.uk/trends/explore#q=HPI Baja
I'd say that those two vehicles are probably the least realistic terms to search to show a correlation between searches for brands cars and information and interest in the hobby... But that's just my opinion. Still a pretty interesting tool with interesting results.

On the flip side if you look at your trends of "Nitro RC" and "Electric RC" and then add "RC" you'll see RC far and away more higher than those two and pretty consistent pattern.
This been has chinese translated much? Sense not much too me...

I've actually noticed more people interested in the hobby now more then ever. I actually just got a father my age (33) and his 8 year old son in it. My nephews and brothers started because they enjoyed mine, one of my clients who is 37 and his 9 year old son well be enjoying the hobby as well come Christmas day.

Also it really shows your maturity level when someone doesn't agree with you that you point a simple single word left out of a sentence. I understand what WoodiE is saying far more then the majority of your nonsensical posts!

I honestly didn't understand it. Can't presume I'm immature because I made a joke about how I didn't understand something, because if that was the case we'd all be incredibly immature. I'd also like to know why you think my posts are nonsensical? as you don't seem to have any evidence to show this. Nice to know you've got your nephews and brothers into it :)

Maybe this will help you...

That's for all three, we're talking nitro RC here. And the search term RC is very vague indeed, as you can see, that is the main line, which remains flat as RC covers such a wide range of things. Remote Controls, Cars, Planes, Quad copters, Boats. And recently there has been a huge boom in quad copter sales and users. The subjects that we are actually talking about here are declining, it's just they've been flattened to the point where you can't differentiate them because of the large amount of searches for RC in general.

You are missing my point and at this point we're doing nothing more than talking in circles now. You're obviously stuck on some random obscure search term "nitro RC" so I'll bow out of this conversation. I can tell you this, in the entire time this site has existed not once has the phrase or term "nitro RC" been used to find this site nor has this phrase been used in our own site search...

Well, as I see it, the key word is "Nitro"...."NITRO". We're not saying the interest in RC has declined. It's very possible that interests are up due to all the maintenance free "charge and run" or "Bind and fly" products out today, plus the helis and 'drones' that no longer require a skill.
This used to be a buzzing forum with two key questions from all the newbies; "I can't start my car"..."How can I make it wheelie?"
Not much to do with electrics and not much advise being sought.

I'm not talking about the forum....I'm saying that as a hobby, worldwide it is decreasing- I think you might of slightly misunderstood...
