I don't think you can take a Nitro truck on a commercial airline. Could someone please prove me wrong, or tell me what you have to do to make air travel with a nitro engine safe and legal?

Would love to race the guy who sold my my truck, but I'm not driving that far.

What I would do is ship the car and radio to whre ever I was staying and ship it back but as far as traveling with it I think FastEddy would be a good one to ask. He brought his toys to the ECB II last year in buffalo all the way form Cali.

the truck i think would be ok but the gas would be a problem.. he would have to supply your gas.. but i thing the truck should be ok as long as you dont try to carry it on..

if you want to take it on an airline, you have to remove any fuel residue as it will set off bomb detectors. this means a full teardown and cleaning of your cars. flushing out the engines with ARO, and leaving your fuel tanks and lines at home. buy new tanks and lines where ever your going, and when done, leave them there, or mail them home. i would pack all your gear in 1 bag, clothes in the 2nd, and put car and radio in your carry on. also bring along some rc mags, so if there is question its easier explained.

as diver said the easiest thing to do, is ship the car and gear where ever your going. but if you can't, do as i said above and you should have minimal problems. its the method that all the pros use when traveling with thier cars. (they have a discussion on this very topic on another forum i read)

There was a discussion on this site a while back about this. What you can do is flush the tank and lines and leave them open to air out for a couple days before packing them. Blast the engine with cleaner and apply after run oil down the carb and plug hole. DO NOT attempt to take Nitro fuel, it is a HAZMAT and can not be shipped on an airplane carrying passengers. I'm certified in shipping HAZMATS and pretty familiar with what can be put on airplane (cargo or passenger) and what needs to ship ground. I travel with my cars alot, both on our airplane and commercial and have never had a problem, of course I do the loading on our plane. If you pack all your stuff in it's own suitcase you may just want to mention it at check in or call the airline directly prior to and make sure there are no problems, just ask for a supervisor, no any old shmoe that answers the call as they most likely won't even know what the hell your talking about. HTH

I took my savage from phoenix to seattle with a half tank. nothing happened.... no search no nothing.

I wouldn't brag about that, especially should something happen and an airplane full of people goes down. Don't think it can happen, think again, cause it has.

i wasn't bragging about anything... i was just saying.... I thought it odd too...

Sorry, didn't mean to sound condescending but I take aviation safety very seriously since it involves my livelyhood. I don't want to part of something someday caused by someone who didn't think enough to ask if what they had packed in their bag was ok to bring on an airplane or not. Most of the security stuff is a joke, always has been and always will be unless they make some major changes but the little poster they have up by the checkin desk with all the pictures of "not to carry" items is pretty serious.

I got all my stuff searched for having a bunch of those tai chi balls in my snowboard bag....LOL...it was like 5-6 months after 9/11 and I was flying back from JFK...they saw these solid round balls all along the bottom of my bag....I thought I was gonna get tackled by security...the girl watching the X-ray looked like she saw a ghost when she was looking on the screen.....I bought 1 set of each size hollow and solid.....8 sets cuase I also got 2 set s of marble ones......I was told by the port authority after I got everything but a strip search that they look like bomb cores...and being in a long soft case with my snowboard it looked odd.....I got a laugh out of it now but it was annoying then....I just sat and waited cause I knew they have to do stuff like this.....I can only imagine what they would do if you tried to bring nitro fuel on the plane.....

maybe she looked like a ghost because she thought they were ben wah balls ... lol

that would be one impressive ben wah Ball...I use the 4lb. solid ones for excersising w/.....IF I saw a chick hold that puppy in, I'd run away very fast......not light speed, warp speed or hyper speed but plaid speed......and yes my shwartz IS bigger than yours....

You for sure want to call ahead to the carrier, and you'll want to plan ahead to buy your fuel there and not bring any home. Hazmats are heavily regulated in air transport. if you have a large amount of time you can read the regs here- http://www.gpoaccess.gov/cfr/index.html
It's 49CFR175.
Best bet-clean your Nitro truck very well, including the inside of the fuel tank, before packing it up and be sure to notify the airline what you'll be transporting.

I took my truck in the suitcase, with out the wheels. But it was brand new at the time, so no fuel.

Maybe cleaning it out like the guys said would be the best choice.

daakeung...dude this is almost a year old(By one day). I mean it doesn't matter, but it seems as though the problem was solved.

you know something, how the hell did I end up in this old thread.
It was in active topics so I didn't check the date. Oh Crudd, sorry. DAMN!

so its been a good while since this thread was touched. my dad lices in texas and is talking about flying me out to see him, he hasnt seen any of my on-roads and i'd like to take one out to show off. i'd just be worried about security confiscating my expensive rc's and not giving it back.
