OK, i know, not STRICTLY hobby grade R/C, but this is important to ME at least and i need YOUR help to succeed in what i seek to do.

I am trying, so far without success, to locate a NIKKO Grasshopper buggy.

This goes back to 1987/88, my brothers birthday, Me and a lot of fun.



What i remember of the Nikko Grasshopper is this.

It was rear wheel drive with a 2 speed rear axle. The "Hi/Low" option was an orange flick lever.

It was around 1/10 scale.

The body was red with a wrap round black window at the front.

It ran on 8 AA batteries.

Nikko later produced a "Grasshopper II" version which was basically the same (to me at least) with a newer body design and possibly slightly faster. It had White wheels with "Stud" type tread at the rear.


IF ANY MEMBER HAS ONE OF THESE NIKKO GRASSHOPPER BUGGY'S THAT THEY ARE WILLING TO PART WITH OR KNOWS WHERE I COULD FIND ONE FOR SALE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I AM TRYING TO FIND ONE TO GIVE TO MY BROTHER FOR HIS BIRTHDAY. IT WAS HIS FIRST R/C VEHICLE AND MY ENTRANCE INTO THE HOBBY. This is a search that I am starting "Ahead" of time to try and make sure i find one and not fall flat on my face.

This is also a "Toy" that brought my brother and i to "understand" each other, so it means more than just another "R/c toy" to both of us.
 
Is it simular to the Timiya(spelling?) Grasshopper. I have never found out what scale it was because it never said!
 
it HAS to be the NIKKO one, thats what we BOTH started with, besides, i'm trying to replace the one i "comandeered" so long ago
 
I have founded nothing my friend...
if any one had it they are more likely to bin it as we all know that Nikko is a junk.
maybe just buy him a Tamiya Grasshopper? it's fun to build and will get him back to old days as well,if he was into the hobby back then,the tamiya's models were very expensive and maybe he even wanted to have one of them but could never afford it?
and that's why it could be better to buy a Tamiya Grasshopper...
 
I know you're trying to help and i appreciate that, but the the point in the search, is to find a "Rig" that he had once and give it to him as a gift.

If i wanted to, i could go and buy him any rig of MY choosing, but he chose that one way back when and thats what i wish to replace.


On the FLIP side, i could just get him the tamiya one and save myself some hassle.

that's right,you wont find the Nikko one for sure,most people that had it possibly bin it or broke something in it and then bin it...
 
I searched for it for you, so far i havnt came across anything. I'll keep looking though! Good luck!

I did a search for the "grasshpper" myself on "go-ogle" and spent 6 hours tailchasing and getting nowhere. oh well. theres always the rest of my life to find it !!!! lol
 
well dude good luck i even took a minute to help look for it to no avail, i know you dont want to but that tamiya is looking pretty good right now huh

sparky, it similar but not the one. The grasshopper had a Red body with black wrap round window.


Good call tho, i remember that buggy well, saw a few on the streets i grew up on !!
