Newbie Question Which Nitro 200mm Car

Currently I race a Losi XXXT 1/10 Stadium Truck on the local dirt track. We've also got a great oval and road course (asphalt) This past weekend we hosted a New England Championship with the 1/8 and 1/10 cars. As a newbie I guess on road touring cars, 200mm, and 1/10 are all the same. Please correct me if I'm wrong. To make a long story short I've just gottas get a touring car and the local shop says I want the Team Associated Nitro TC3Plus that just came out. My question is, is it the best, are there any other brands I should consider. Stock class I want the one to beat. Thanks for your input.

Hey Gary, and welcome to the crazy world of on road.
I drive the older version of the NTC3. The newer version, I have seen in action.
It's a durable strong car, thats easy to set up, and very easy to get parts for.
I would say get it.
There are other cars out there that might be a little bit quicker or better handeling, but not that much better.
And it will cost you a lot more $$ to find that out.
I race every Sunday against my friends that have the Kyosho's and Mugen's.
I out drive them every weekend. They also have $350-$400 dollar engines in their cars.
There cars are "FASTER" but not much. It also depends on your budget.
I know I'm kind of all over the place with this reply, but I'm wacked on Nitro cleaner.

The best car is the best one you can control and tune to win. The NTC3 is an exceptional car but there are others like The MTX-3 or the G4. There are underdogs like the 4 Tec by Traxxas.

Remember that .12 engines is what you are limited to.

The NTC3 Plus RTR goes for $339 in my local shop, is that a fair price. I want to support my local guy because he built us the track.

That's an average price for that car. If I am correct, the RTR Plus is equivalent to the older kit version in that it has the 2 speed in it. Does it have the threaded shock bodies as well? Anway, this is a great 1/10 to start off with.

Just as the others have stated, there are more expensive on-roads out there but that doesn't make them a better car. For instance, my brother's NTC3 beat Team17's Mugen MTX-3. @ differenct cars on different price levels. It's all driver's skill before speed.

Then again, ratzo was saying how his friends cars aren't THAT much faster but he still got beat by a schumacher LOL :boxing:

The Nitro TC3 is a great car from beginner to intermediate. I will always love this car (NTC3). As a first on-road, I would suggest it to anyone looking to get a first on-road car. It also has TONS of hop-ups.

You also should go to your local hobby shop and see what cars they have parts for as well as kits.

I have an HPI R40 and like it alot but its the only on-road nitro car I've owned. But I like it enough I bought a second one

One thing to remember as people recommend one car over another is whether they've owned more than the one car they are recommending. Meaning if someone like myself says "Go with the R40 cause its the best car out there", only having driven the R40, Its not much of a recommendation over another car.

From what I've also seen the NTC3, MTX3, G4, R40 are all very competitive. Seems to come down to driver skill and set-up. On any day at my local track any one of these can win....

I am a loyal serpent guy if you looking to build one yourself get a 710 you to diver.

hmnn serpent.. not a fan of that. but everyone has his fav car. but for beginner onroader i dont think that person should begin with a serpent.
the parts are so expensive.

it depends where you want to use your car for. you can go with a high class racer but dont expect it to use on parking lots.
if ya are mostly bashing around get a car that is cheaper and made for that.
i got a hpi rs3 ss with a freakin high powerfull engine. and it ownes all other bashers. but dont expect to win from racers then.

I am getting that serpent710! Just don't tell my wife. They all look alike to her with the lids on anyway. End of the month, just waiting for some extra funds. DAMN, money (or the lack of it) always gets in the way!

Team- Even after you and my brother corrected your pulley shaft issue, I lapped your mtx-3 twice to win the race. the numbers don't lie. i can repost them if you like.

the NTC3 is a great car to start off with. first get an engine within your skill level. as your skills progress, you can upgrade to faster engines. the NTC3 teaches new racers the mechanics and effects of suspension tuning (camber,toe angles, shocks, etc.) when you feel ready to enter the racing scene, upgrade to the more race-suited cars, such as the 710.

Considering I started the race half a lap down because they took too long to start the race and my car flamed out and at the final 40 seconds the Marshal took his sweet time to flip my car back over, I say I made up alot of time and u really only finished a lap and a half ahead.
