I am new to the r/c world and am looking to purchase a nitro stadium truck, what are the best choices out there. I am interested in the Rustler due to its power and large after market base, but open to suggestions.
Thank For anyhelp
Tux

Well ill jump in with a xxx nt or rc10gt couple people will say a rustler but if you want to race stay away from it power nice handling aint its a brick with wheels ...welcome to the forum

Thanks for your opinion, i just want to be an informed consumer on this purchase, and want the most bang for the buck.

Thanks for the welcome

There are several things you might want to consider before deciding which truck you buy. Probably the most important thing to consider is what parts support you have locally. It doesn't matter what you get if you can't drive it because you are waiting on parts. See what you can get parts for locally and use that as a starting point. Next, what conditions will you be running in? Do you plan on racing, or just bashing in your backyard? Then, you should look at what fits in your price range.
If you don't plan to race, then the Traxxas Rustler or Stampede would be great. The 2.5 is a power house and the trucks are some of the most durable out there.
If you ever plan to race then you might look to the Losi XXX-NT or the Associated RC10-GT. They will not be quite as durable for bashing, but they are leaps and bounds over Traxxas for racing.
Another option is the new Duratrax Nitro Evader. It is relatively new on the market, but if it is anything like it's electric counterpart it will be a good truck for the money.

Okay heres the deal. Specify what you are going to do the most with your new truck. Are you going to race...or just fool around ad go fast, wheelie, ramp, and Fly! or are you in it just for power. Or for power to put down on a track? Also...stay away from duratrash..the evader isnt that good. I have the rustler and it is just as powerful as it is all hyped out to be. I can keep up with my friends Picco .21 engine in his OFNA 1/8 buggy.

I plan on starting off just desert bashing/crusing rill i get the hang of driving then maybe racing after a while

I might still be a Novice, but I've learned my lessons about picking the right car.

Tux, go to your Local Hobby Shop (lhs) first. #1 see what parts they carry. #2 ask what kinds of tracks are around.

I bought a Duratrax Maximum ST. I bought it basically to tinker with and learn. I have two hobby shops around me and neither of them stock Duratrax parts. I regret that.

The second thing is that the only track within an hour of me runs only 1/8th scale buggies. I regret that.

If you EVER want to race, you need to have the same type of car or trcuk as everyone else. Your stadium truck may not fit in well with the touring cars at your local track.. ;)

if you are looking for the best bang for the buck in a stadium truck go wit hteh losi xxx-nt sport. for 339.99 you get a good engine and a JR XR2i COMPUTERIZED radio, its a great truck with lots of potential. the radio alone is a 100 dollar radio

Good advice all. Yea, find out how easy it will be to get replacement parts. You WILL break this truck. If you don't you're not driving it right!!!! And it's important to be able to get parts fast. Unless you like sitting around and looking at it. I have an RC10GT. It's fast and handles well. I don't race, so I don't drive it a lot. It also has a ton of aftermarket support. But I also concede that the XXX-NT RTR is a great buy. It's a little pricey comparatively speaking, but that JR radio is an EXCELLENT addition and is far superior to the typical RTR radios.

this is a little off topic.....Good advice Rob you have come along way since starting here. Its good to see that learning is taking place here along with the tom foolery

As for the losi xxx-nt sport my lhs has it for 309.99 if you decide to go with that one pm me and I'll get you there info because thats the cheapest that I have found it

RC GT 10 is the best hands down. Has won the most IFMAR titles and has huge support (check locally). Losi are awesome but fragile from what I have seen. The shave so much weight of a-arms, shock towers, ect so it is brittle but a super fast racer. Mugen is also a great choice for a stadium truch just make sure you can find parts for it.

thanks nitro dave -- learning the hard way.

tux, good luck on your buy. This hobby is loads of fun. :)

hey ninja u talking about dirt burners??? i used to race there and wont till they change the layout

No, larry's in sterling heights it's owned by the same person as dirt burners but a lot better prices. Also I was at dirt burners a couple of weeks ago and there track was changed.

thanks to all for the advise, in regards to the handeling issues of the rustler, are they something that can be resolved with aftermarket parts or practice driving?

No it can't there was a post on traxxas that some one linked here a guy had spent more than triple the cost of a rc10gt or a xxx nt to get his rustler handling better and he even stated it wasn't as good as his other one dont rember what he had someone will find link my puter is not working well tonight or i would

I am greatful for the suggestions, i have checked my lhs and there is a plentiful supply of parts for both the rc10 and rustler, for my first cat i am probably gonna by the more durable "Brick" once i get used to bashing that around corners i will prob buy a rc10 for racing. I am glad i stumbled across this site, you guys are extremely helpful and very friendly to a total newbie such as my self.8-0

hehe yeah I dont think he listened well to us. :hehe: oh well to each his own.
