getting t-maxx tonight quick questions

i am buying a used t-maxx tonight it is the 2.5 version but it has the 3.3 motor in it good bad or ugly looks like its in good shape what are the known issues with the 2.5 maxx
 
Trans is pretty weak without a FOC, spurs strip pretty easy, stock cast engine mount is weak, diffs are weak, bulkheads are brittle, axles are weak...

It kind of sucks in general, but with 3.3 maxx parts, can be made better more cheaply than in the old days when the 2.5 maxx was as good as it got.
 
a 3.3 tranny would be a worthwile investment, the only real problems I've had with it has been top shaft gears occasionally. bulkheads break so aluminum ones are a good idea, or just keep spares on hand. rpm arms are a cheap way to toughen it up too

I just bought a old pro .15 maxx that the guy put a 3.3 into i payed 175 and my losi micro baja i thnk i got a good deal will post pictures asap
 
Did he do any of the 3.3 mods that it needs? Enjoy it if you have to mod it yourself.I just built mine from a 2.5 to a .21 beast.
 
tranny, Bulkheads,shocks,also all the axle's on it. The 2.5 is ok mill if you make a few upgrades. But a 2.5 with a 3.3 will leave carnage

its not gonna kill the truck if i can't get stuff right atm the 3.3 wont eat it up to bad?? right??
 
yeah prolly but I'm thinkin opti shift and the 3.3 trans is a must have
 
I think you should upgrade to the 3.3 drive line and tranny. The new additions made to from the 2.5 platform to the 3.3 were essential to the added power.
 
really that blows there like 70 bucks even on ebay

i believe it has the shafts but i know it doesn't have the trans
 
damn that sucks

but on the good side it means that when the guy said the motor waasnt used for more then about 10 tanks he wasn't kiddin

so as long as i stay off the hard lauches i should be ok??
 
thats not very promising but tanx guys i guess thatll be the first thing ill have to do

would loosening the slipper on the spur help any??
