Hello everyone, I have been looking at this site for about a month now and found plenty of helpfull information on the problems that I have been having. I am still having problems though. I bought a Losi Mega Baja about a month ago and cannot seem to keep it running past a half tank. It runs good until it up until that point and then it will not want to crank back up and run until I let it sit for a minute or crank it while pulling the trigger on the remote to get it gas. I have set the needles back to factory settings and still have problems with it. The other day I finally started setting it to where it would not run so rich like losi's do when they come out of the box and it had a lot better pick-up but it still shut off at a half a tank it still cut off.

Please help, any advice is welcome!! I also soon plan on doing a exhaust upgrade to boost power if I can get this problem fixed!!

I always push down on the cap of the tank to make sure that is on tight before after I fill the tank with fuel. An airleak could be the problem, I was planning on starting to hunt them down tonight. I noticed yesterday that my fuel filter was loose and had to tighten it back up and after that I still had the same problem.

Well I'm fairly new to this but i read some places that after your running it and stop it you should wait a while to start it again because the engine it too hot and the fuel just evapourates or something, i had the same problem. Also might have something to do with the "Half Tank lean" were when you have less fuel the engine leans out and might over heat, i dont know if that has anything to do with it but still just so you know.
Maybe someone else can clear this up for ytou
hope i helped

I do not have a temp gauge yet, but I do the water test and I do not think that it is running hot. I can almost always see a trail of smoke coming out of the pipe, even at full speed. I think the only reason that I cannot see a trail of smoke sometimes though is do to the dirt that I am slinging in my backyard.
Thanks for the advice, I will look into it as well. I need to purchase a digital guage to check the temp with.

"rite after it stalled out u tried starting it? when the engine gets hot and u try starting it all the gas just evaperates because its so hot. trust me I've done the same thing with my truck. when the engine is still hot the engine wont even try to start up u have to wait till it cools down. to avoid this bring ur car in every so often and make sure it still has gas. if its running low fill it back up while still running that way u dont have to wait till it cools off to start again." I got that from a google search, so it doesn't matter if your engine was over heating, its still too hot even if you have good engine temps , but it could be something else lol

I believe that it is not getting enough pressure in the tank to keep a flow of nitro to the block. Thats why i believe that there is an air leak. The weight of the fuel keeps a steady flow going untill you get through about a half a tank, then there is not enough weight to keep it flowin. That is why we have the exhaust return tube from muffler to fuel tank, to give it some pressure to flow.

Cool guys, thanks for the advice and sorry ibanez830, that makes since to me. I had not thought of it that way. Alpinehyperlite, I will try to find leaks in it tonight. Any ideas on where to start? Could it be that the stock exhaust does not allow enough pressure to keep it going?

Thanks again guys!

Change all of your fuel lines, and check the o-ring on the filter, also take the stock exhaust off, and check to make sure that there is no fuel just chillin in it. I usually clear mine out by pulling it off, and blowing my air compressor through the stinger, and re route your lines so that there are no sharp bends or steep upward bends.

Thanks for the pointers on the starting points, I will give those a try tonight when I get home and can play. Does the fuel tank haveing a primer on it cause any problems that anybody knows of?

Thanks for the help and advice, I will keep posted on what I find out.

It could, if the primer is leaking. I have the aftershock with the same setup. I took my primer off and epoxy'd the hole closed. Its kinda pointless.

Primer tanks are the pits.
After you get it started and warmed up, we need to know how it behaves from a dead stop and at WOT. I'm sure you have a tuning issue here, also.

INVEST IN A TEMP GUN!!!!

Even though your seeing smoke all the time, it doesn't mean your not running far too lean.

Out of the box, my aftershock fuel filter was damaged. The o-ring was messed up and cut. I took the o-ring off, cleaned the entire filter with DA and put a good amount of RTV on the threads and put it back together. It's been fine for over a year.

Check the bottom of your tank. I've split 2 tanks on the bottom, one on the side and one right where the fuel filter rests between the engine and tank. A crack right there by the filter would let a lot of air leak in right around... oh, say, HALF TANK!!! The fun part about a crack there is that the filter covers it up so you can't see it easily. I promptly replaced all lines and mounted the filter to the back of the shock tower. After buying another tank of course. ;)

Good luck!

EDIT:
Oh... I broke another tank by not waiting for it to warm up after it was delivered (in December) before yanking the primer out... that was a waste of $18!

It takes off sluggish, but at full throttle it runs good until about half a tank an then it dies. Oh yeah, after I get it to full throttle I can stop it for a few seconds and take off it takes off o.k., but if I let it sit and idle for about 10 seconds or so it will take off sluggish again or it will shut down when I try to take off. Also when I do get it going again, I can run it for a few seconds and it will die again at full throttle. The other day when I was leaning it out it started to take off with a lot more power and it had better top end speed as well. I also tried going the other way on the settings and I started loosing power and still had the same shutting down problem. Before I started leaning it out when I took off it would be sluggish and a lot of smoke from the exhaust, I mean clouds of smoke. The factory settings for the Baja are 3.5 turns out on the HSN and 2.5 turns on the LSN. I do the water test on the engine and it has never evaperated quickly by any means, not saying that I am not running to lean or too hot because I am not sure how accurate the water test is. I did not get a chance to start checking for any leaks last night since I got home late, hopefully tonight, if not then I will do it tomorrow since I only work till 12:30pm tomorrow. I think I will stop and pick up some jb-weld for the primer tank, I have read that the primers are not very useful and they leak often in other threads. I will also run the fuel lines to re-rought the fuel filter too, and check for a crack as well, thanks for the tip!!

Thanks for the advice and thanks in advance for any more help with my problem!!

Hey guys, thanks for the advice. I have found some air bubbles in the fuel lines. The first thing that I did was remove the primer and plugged the hole.
It made it run a heck of a lot better through the entire tank. I am still getting small bubbles though so I will be replacing the fuel lines before my next run. Just it running through the whole tank made me happy!!!:hehe:

Thanks again guys for your help!!!!

I'm glad that ibanez is trying to help, and please don't take this personal. BUT, you should be able to run your truck, shut it off, and restart it immidiately while its still at operating temp. With a proper tune, this should not be a problem at all. With all my nitros, once tuned I've always been able to shut it off and restart with one or two yanks on the cord or bumps of the starter.
