Hi everyone,

Son and I would like to start running nitro.

First dilemma we are having is choosing the right first R/C truck. We are looking towards Truck over car for the reason of drive any terrain, we got mostly grassy areas to drive on, not much hot top. My Bday is coming up and the sons past on the 13th of July, I really wanna get 2 trucks for us to start with any ideas?
I did some searching but the info is overwhelming. Looking to pay no more then $400 for each truck, probably start with a RTR. Any and all ideas are welcome :D

Thnx D

Welcome to the site, good to hear that you're getting involved in the hobby with your son. I purchased my Revo on ebay for right at $400 with shipping. Traxxas also has some other nice trucks/buggies for a little less than that and you can get them at your local hobby store. I can't comment on any other nitro trucks, I own a Losi LST (1st version) which I think is a good truck, it's easier to work on than the Revo, but mine is used and I think they retail new (LST2) for more than $400.

I tired to buy 2 Revos off ebay for $800 both trucks, but the guy was a drop shipper and something happend and now I'm fighting with paypal for my money back.

Think I might buy from towerhobbies.com. I've been looking at the Revos, not sure if they would be good for beginning nitro. We do have experience with electric as we have 2 stampedes and LOVE them.

I will spring the extra $$ for the revos if they are worth it for beginning nitro.

IMO there is no such thing as a beginner nitro, they all need tuning and basically the same maintenance.

From what I read in your first post you will be bashing more than anything, I would go with the Savage, it big, fast and very tough (it will take a beating and ask for more) and with Towers discount code it's very close to your budget

Another option that I would recommend

The Revo is a great truck but IMO it lacks the monster truck look and feel that I like while I'm bashing....Nothing like a couple of big monster trucks gettin after it.

Regardless of the trucks you choose the father and son time will be great!

Yes we are looking to do lots of Bashing, no racing as I have only seen electric no nitro for racing in my area. So the Savage? I was looking at that as a possibility, it looks HUGE, it maybe just what we are looking for.

Thnx for the advice :)

As for "beginner nitro truck" I guess that is an oxymoron..lol

There is also the Slayer coming out. It has a more realistic look for a Nitro. It is a little more then what you wanted to spend, but I have its brother the Electric Slash and there are a lot of footage on the Electric. Check out the video secton for just how tough the Slash is for electric. It is a great truck there, but think that the Slayer maybe more for the yard and harder terrain due to it being 4WD. It will be my first Nitro I will own after July.

The price someone found it here for was $469

Traxxas shows it to be $825.00 Ouch!

i think u should buy the HPI nitro rs4 mt2. it is a great truggy and it stands up 2 alot of bashing trust me. and the savage is under $400 in the U.S.A? here in canada its like almost $600.

Gonna have to ask my son which he likes as they both look great, the Savage and the HPI nitro rs4 mt2. The Slayer looks cool but I'm looking to get the trucks within a week or 2.

Think I'm gonna grab the Savage myself, not sure which my son likes, I'll get his thoughts when I get home from work. Then we order...So excited!!!

Thnx for your feedback
