My truck is about a week old and it the spur gear is missing about a 1/3 of its teeth. What could have caused this? Could there be a BIGGER issue?

Obviously it needs to be replaced, but with what? More/less teeth, Steel/Titanium, Machined or not, Brand... Do I need to replace the clutch bell also?

I dont plan on doing anything specific with the truck, just want a reliable, TOUGH truck!! "If your going to fix something, fix it once and fix it right"

ADVISE PLEASE!!:\

Could be two things: either the mesh is off or the spur is too tight on the slipper.

I suggest going with a stock spur and insuring it's meshed correctly. I would NOT suggest replacing with a metal spur. You need a weak point to prevent the CB and engine from eating itself should something go wrong.

I have a stock spur from my old savage that had 10+ gallons run through it. It looks like hell, but no teeth are missing. I'm an advocate of sticking with stock plastic for a cheap weak spot.

Likely causes are :
your mesh was off to begin with
the engine moved due to the bolts holding the mount came loose
the engine mount is cracked
the engine mount plate or cross bar bolts are loose
bearings in the cb are shot allowing the bell to flop around
bolt came out of the end of the bell allowing the bearing to fall out and bell to flop around
A stick or rock got up in there and jammed it up when running (freak occurrence, but it happens)
And what was covered up above. :)
