Hey guys I have a savvy ss that I upgraded the steering with a hitec 645mg high torque. I think it sucks. It has a slow reaction time,and the savvy turns in one direction better then the other? Is anyone having similar problems? I just have the stock servo saver right now,waitin on my kyosho inferno to come in. Should I try a new servo like airtronics 94358 or 94359? Are they worth the extra money?
 
Lose the stock servo saver,it sucks.Kimbrough(sp) sells some good servo savers,its what I run on my SS.
 
I thought the kimbrough ones were way to soft. I did the MP upgrade and I run the 645 in mine. It works really well.

You sure it's not your radio that's messed up? Maybe you have a radio that has settings to control EPA and servo speed... I know mine has at leat EPA, I think it has some other proportional crap that I don't understand or use...

Make sure you used the correct spline adapter, the wrong one will cause the exact symptoms you are having. I have run that servo in My Savage SS and it never gave me a bit of trouble, I recently changed it out for the 5645 digital version, that's a great servo as well.

The stock servo saver is crap! Change it out for a Kimbrough, or better yet the monster pirate servo saver mod. This will make a huge difference.
 
Ok you say servo saver.Do you mean the round thing that screws right on to the servo itself? Or the two post piece thats vertical under the radio box? I'm unsure on the end point on the radio. I have the Jr synthesised radio. How exactly do I need to adjust them?
 
Yeah, the round thing the screws onto the servo is the stock servo saver. The monster pirate servo saver rod moves the actual servo saver to one of the two verticle posts. I don't have that radio so I can't help you there.
 
For the servo saver...you can replace the stock servo saver (that big round looking servo horn on the stock servo) with a Kimbrough servo saver (much better). The Monster Pirate mod is simply replacing the steering set up of the Savage with the one that comes stock on the Monster Pirate. The MP set up is modeled after a 1/8 scale buggy set up and uses one of the steering posts with a spring system as the servo saver. The MP set up is perhaps the best road to take. As for the end points on your servo, that is more than likely a trim issue. Most radioes come with trim setting toggles or knobs that allow you to adjust the throw of the servo by adjusting the throw of the radio. If you place the steering trim at neutral on the radio and you have the wheel straight prior to attaching the linkage to the servo, you should have a radio and linkage set up that provide equal throw to either side. You may have to look into the manual for the radio to locate the trim controls (if you are not already familiar with them).
 
I figured while on the subject Id ask ... I'm waiting on my MP servo saver mod parts in the mail before I install my Hitec 654 mg. My question is will this mod also eliminate the play or (slop) in the steering or should I be doing something else to correct that while I have it apart?
 
That probably depends on where the slop is. If your ball ends are worn or the steering connecting bar is worn, there will still be slop. I'm running the MP upgrade and I have minimal slop. Less than I did with a kimbrough saver. I thought the kimbrough saver was way to soft for any MT, but that could just be me.
 
I met up with some other savvy owners and was lookin at their stuff.I'm gonna go with the kyosho kanai servo rods and a solid arm on the servo. No spring horn. The guys also said to grind off excess plastic on the front knuckles and uprights,where they can move farther. Has anyone else heard of this? I did it and I'll upload some pics later today
