Just got some questions is 45 degrees to cold to break in my engine? Couldn't I wrap a sock or foil around the head to get proper temps of 220 -250?

Not if you have a heat gun to pre-heat the engine. You need to be above 160f to get the internal metals expanding and you want to be under 200f.

the problem with cold weather break in is the cold temps will cool your engine. You might be running at 200f but way too lean to get that temp so you will be inside the ideal temp range but pushing too little nitro through the engine. You really want a rich tune for the break in, AND at the same time to be inside the 160f to 210f temp range, hard to do when its cold outside.

It can be done, but really not recommended unless your experienced at breaking in engines.

Yeah or if you dont have a heat gun just warm it up in the house with a hair dryer.. it will just take awhile to get it up to temp. do you have a temp gauge ? when breaking in an engine its very important you have a good eye on temp so you can see how hot its getting as it idling.

thats good. then you can make sure its not running to lean... when break it you want it running rather rich so that means your engine should be running pretty cool. so wrapping the engine might be smart while break in but then again there isnt any air flowing through the head.

Either way.. while its warmed up and idling if its running like really cold you should wrap the head up. if its running like low 200's then your fine.

Also do you know what your altitude is ? how many feet above sea level.

Above 160f & never higher then 210f. Ideal temp is 200f. It's important to be careful and run her rich. if she feels very peppy & has great throttle response she might be too lean for a break in ( not a "lean" tune, but too lean for the break in procedures.

Ok and no no idea about sea level... But I guess ill go from factory settings all needles flush and wrap the head if it needs it and see what happens try to get around 200 by richening hsn a little

Ok yeah if your around sea level factory settings will be fine.. just asking because altitude always determines tune. I'm 4k above sea level and factory needle settings just flood out the engine so out of the box i had to lean it about half a turn.

What pipe?

Are you talking about the cone on the inside of the pipe? If so,, leave it, that is the peice that improves performance and makes it a 'tuned pipe"

I took mine out, i like it with it out. But either way i later upgraded to an HPI tuned pipe.

Taking that out is not a good idea. While the plastic pipe is nothing special, taking the cone out hurts the performance, doen't do anything to help at all, basically it turns a tuned pipe into a muffler and nothing more. The engine uses that cone to increase performance, not lower sound.

Taking it out wont hurt the engine, but it guaranteed makes less power then with the cone in, 100%

I beg to differ because my truck with it out was literally fliping over from a dead stop to full throttle, on pavement and it seemed to have fine response and i personally didnt noticed any drop in performance. i mean if it wheelies on command .. that usually means you got a good running truck with a nice tune.

The X takes nothing to wheelie, bad tune, saggy suspension, weak ass engine, it don't matter the X wheelbase is so short, and the COG so high up, its really easy to wheelie, takes a bit more with the extended LCG & XL platforms.

I am positive, a spot on tune with the cone in, will out perform the pipe with it pulled out and as tuned as it can be.

It doesn't hurt the engine, the engine will run fine, and perform alright, just not as good or as powerful with it properly in place.

A Nitro tuned pipe works using the sound waves produced by the engine to help pull fuel through and push fuel back in to increase performance

Your removing the cone that was tuned to send the sound waves back at an ideal time for the engine. HPI alloy Tuned Pipe is better for sure though, but not really by much, its louder. Low end 007, Mid range 053, top end 086, everywhere ERCM 221T.

I understand what your getting at and it makes sense.. All I'm saying is i was happy with how my truck performed with it out... and honestly it was more than enough power for me..

I'm just saying i personally didnt notice that much of a drop in power compared to when i drove it with it in. Literally i think the only thing i noticed was the sound.

Yeah, its not a high performance pipe, with or without will be a small difference, the more performance tuned the pipe is the higher the negative impact of removing the cone will be.

yeah i just couldnt pass up the deal, it was only 15 bucks shipped bran new.

yeah those are nice, I've been buying everything with a budget. So ebay has been my main site for parts for now. affordable with the same quality as most online hobby stores.

obviously those pipes arent on there but yeah if i had extra dough i would but lately I'm having trouble afford fuel. so right now its gonna sit.
