I just bought a new Savage X 4.6. I plan to bash the crap out of this thing since I use my Revo only for racing now. What do I need to look out for in terms of common failures, also what are some good changes to make to the truck for bashing?

just got used savage too and i've been beating the crap out of it and cannot find the common failures. Just master the jumps and this truck will last. Oh yeah check for half tank lean issue on this truck.

story of my life with my X.

I would get a steel spur, and dual disk brake set for better handling in the air. Other than that I can't think of much else that commonly breaks. Those trucks are just too tough.
I put big bore shocks on to handle the bigger (10'+) jumps but broke one of them already so I'm not convinced they are stronger than the stock ones.
A roll cage would be key too.

I assume you are running the plastic ones. I run the aluminum ones and have them soak up 15+ft jumps with no issue at all.

Ya dude they are the HPI big bore shocks that come as an option. Thinking back for $100 I spent I should of got the alum. threaded. An upgrade for the future.

sorry what are the shocks you have exactly?
