Finished tearing down the truck tonight. It was definately overdue for a good cleaning. There was all kinds of gunk caked up around the transmission case, the hub bearings were filthy but still felt good and smooth. The rear bulkhead plate was bent which broke the plastic crossbrace. Are the bulkhead plates interchangable from front to rear? HPI only lists one on their site so I assume they are. But they didn't show the plastic piece at all does it come with it?

You're correct in your thinking - the bulkhead plates are interchangable front to rear - as is the bulk of the differential/shock tower assembly.
I think the plastic crossbrace that you are referring to is part of a larger gearbox / bulkhead set of plastic pieces - part number 85045.

You can download a PDF Savage owners manual from HPI's website which shows an exploded diagram that ID's all part numbers.

Looks like you are making some pretty good progress, cwal. Keep up the good work and don't forget to post pics of the finished product! :)

Well there really isnt that much wrong with the truck so progress has been pretty easy.Gonna clean everything tonite and probably order my stuff Wednesday. I'm watching the stuff I need in my ebay and the cool part is I've gotten stuff from these people before so I know who I'm dealing with. I just hate waiting though I keep watching Savage vids on youtube and I'm aching to get this thing going! I'm not exactly sure how old this truck is I assume its the model before the 4.6 RTR. But from what I can tell it has been used pretty good and still has most of the original parts on it. I guess that's a testement to how tough these trucks really are! I have pretty much replaced just about everything on my T-MAXX 4908 and it's only a year old!

Yeah, that's the one thing that I really love about the Savage line. I have had my Savage 25 for years and haven't really had to do much. Any aluminum parts I put on were strictly for cosmetics only. My only complaint is that my lhs doesn't carry many (if any) parts for the Savage line. Either way I still live the thing!:D

Here's mine:

Nice rig man! I was able to straighten the bent bulkhead plate so that will save me a few dollars. I cleaned all the aluminum parts with brake parts cleaner and I'm soaking the plastic parts in water and dawn dishwashing liquid. Gonna let em sit overnight and scrub on em tomorrow. Ordering parts Wed. I'm thinking about the purple flames chassis plates. The look sexy!!

You're right, they do look sexy! Do you know who makes those? I was on HPI website looking for those a few days ago and they weren't on there. I first saw them on the 'Bay' but it never said who makes them.

They are listed under the option parts heading in the 4.6 rtr overview but they are a lot cheaper on ebay.

Okay got the parts ordered today should start arriving next week. Then it will be time to put her back together!! Can't wait!!

Got the new 4.6 in today the new spur gear and the new diff. pinions came yesterday. Now all i'm waiting on is the joint posts and the bulkhead braces. Went with aluminum on those. Man I can't believe the difference in size the 3.3 looks so teeny tiny next to the 4.6!!

Hey I have a question. Does the aluminum cone thingy have to be installed in the pipe or is it ust to make it quieter? Does the truck perform any different with or without it?

i dont know but it make it really loud i would go with the buku power pipe or the hpi polished pipe they are both good pipe and give good power

Okay now I have another one. What's the difference between the K4.6 and the F4.6? I got the K4.6 so is that good?

Finally the last of my parts arrived today!! The two bulkhead braces I've been waiting on made it here today!! I know what I'll be doing after work tonitght!!
