Went out today to run the savage and after an hour of tinkering, I find that the receiver has a problem.....tap on it and it looses battery power, place it between finger and thumb and squeeze lightly and it looses battery power......glitches like crazy........I spent some good money on this thing and its begining to pi$$ me off.....:surrender

Maybe you have a bad RX. Which RX do you have I might have one sitting here that I could sell you. Cheap.

Its the one that comes factory in the X.

Its cool, I took a nap and pondered the issue and figured this give me the reason to buy a fancier radio......HAHAHAHHAHA=devil

There ya go! keep your head up.
And spend some money...

Believe me, when all is said and done, you won't think you bought the wrong truck. The Sav is a great MT and hella durable. I would take a moment to call HPI and explain your problem. They have a history of good customer service so I bet they can fix you up.

I emailed HPI once asking about the axle cup for the dual brakes. They replied by emailing me the part number, as it isn't listed anywhere unless you buy the entire dual brake kit. I replied with something saying tower didn't carry it, they replied with "Don't worry, one is in the mail". I received it two days later, free. I didn't even buy the savage new and I let them know that.

I would venture to guess a phone call or email to them would result in you getting a new receiver without too much headache.

Or, like you said, you could upgrade and forget about it.

Upgraded radio is ordered and will be here Thursday, but I will let HPI know of my issues if for nothing else then to let them track problems...........I was going to work on the trans not shifting today so it was a bumber I had to put that on hold till the radio gets here.

Futaba 3PM 3-Channel FM..............I'm hoping its a worthy upgrade. I also got an additional receiver and crystal for the next vehical.
I was planning to upgrade at some point anyways so that all the toys could be controlled with one radio. Less to haul around and deal with in general.

good choice, for the money its a great radio with all that a basher would probily want...i have that radio myself

Everything ordered has arrived and is in the truck.......today we start burning fuel again..........I hope......hahahah.

Wrote HPI with my issues and thier response was....."send us the truck and we will check it out"........Thats not the reponce I was looking for since it was the hobby shop that suggested I do this after they tuned it up and then were closeing for a week to do invintory......plus the fact I am not some brain dead teenager (no offense meant). If there is a problem, I have been around a block or two in my day to know ITS A PROBLEM and not a guess.

Got an order from Tower Tuesday...had a defective part issue, wrote them Tuesday night about it.......Weds they had a replacement part shipped 2nd day air at no charge!!!! THATS CUSTOMER SUPPORT!!!!!

OK OK OK
I'm done ranting......time to burn some nitro......well soon as the sun comes up and the temp. gets above freezing!!!!
Hahahahahahahahahahah

She runs great!!!!! burnt a tank with the only issue being it still is not shifting, but the new radio worked good.

Once you get her broke in and leaned down, she'll shift. That's normal behaviour for a new savage.

test runs this afternoon........lil help please

Speaking of breaking her in...........I've read elsewhere that it really takes over a gallon to get good and broke in and I just finished putting tank #10 thru her today......while doing so, I did an experiment..........2 actually,

First was a solid high speed run with no body on and checked the temp.....got 197......put the body on and repeated the run......temp this time was 270. Now if I read elsewhere correctly, 270 is NOT a good thing, is that right? Should there be that much temp difference with and without the body? Maybe I should cut out the windshield for more airflow?

Second was, I read somewhere that if the shift adj. screw was turned all the way in then the tranny would be locked in first, if this is correct thats what I did and noticed performance was as it has been all along, leaving me to believe that all this time it has never shifted and been running in first this whole time and not second as someone elswhere had suggested. I then turned the screw out 1 full turn and again no shifting. At this point I am not to concerned cause everyone says this will change the more it gets run and leaned out......but with the above temp. readings I wonder if I really dare lean it out much more. I'm still getting blue smoke so I'm not worried about it running TO lean, but if it needs more RPM's to actually get to shifting, I wonder what really is a good running temp for high speed grassy runs in a baseball field, with a couple donuts around the infield thrown in, cause they will only continue to go up if I lean it out more.

So I should return the shift adj. screw back to factory settings and just chill for now as far as the shifting issue is concerned?

270 is definately NOT good. Cutting a hole in the windshield will aid in cooling, as well as drilling a few in the back window.

Next, the shift point; You could try adjusting it, once you're sure you got the tune in the 'area' (which it sounds like you are maybe a 1/8th turn too lean on the high end). The stock setting for the 2 speed is 3 and a half turns from flush with the top of the threads. I'll bet it's within a half turn too tight on the shift point.

Also, adjusting your shift point back down will ease the strain on the motor enough to lower the temps.

It's personal preference, but I prefer higher in the RPM's. That way I get the most out of first gear and I don't make the clutch slip or the engine bog a lot when it goes into second.

Although, it's harder on the trans/drivetrain when you shift high in the RPM's because of the sudden jolt.

I like mine where it shifts just below 2/3rds on the two speed.

On the three speed, first shift is right around 1/4th, second shift is right between 6 and 7 8ths of the RPM band. I just set 'em so they're evenly spaced, so I get the best of both gears.

The radio problem that you are describing could happen to any vehicle. I would not blame that on the Savage. The 3PM is a nice radio, I use it with two vehicles.

I prefer a very high shift point. FWIW, all of the RC vehicles and motors I have set up (many) have been able to shift right away. Someone who really knows what they are doing needs to give you a helping hand.

270 degrees is a bit high. You should try to avoid exceeding that. You have to tune the motor for your type of driving. If you are on the gas a lot you should run it rich to prevent super high temps. If you are on and off the gas you can lean it a little for some more power without super high temps.
