HI guys.

I got my new picco red dot the other day and this is the first engine I've ever broken in so a little nervous I am. Don't want to do any damage.

I took all the bits from the 3.3 and the picco is fitted. I put the pull start on it first but with no joy getting it to start I put the EZ start back on.

Eventually it fired up so I was trying to get it to a basic tune so I could burn off a tank of fuel, just ticking over as per instructions. I began messing with the needles and went all over the place with them breifly. So I tried to take the needles back to factory. I'm having a problem though with the low-speed needle. ofna/picco state 'between 10.5 and 11.5 turns out. But [ame="http://s191.photobucket.com/albums/z188/minmax89/tmaxx/?action=view&current=piccoreddotengineidle.mp4"]tmaxx :: eratic idle on picco red dot video by minmax89 - Photobucket[/ame] is with the low-speed out at 5.5 turns!! And the idle is all over the place!

Sorry about the quality.

That doesn't look right does it? What am I doing wrong?

Please help as this engine cost me a fortune and i don't want to **** it up.

The needles are set at the factory for break in, give or take a quarter to a half turn. So you need to determine the factory settings. Also, my buddies picco had some air leaks. Your engine should be sealed before break in. The hsn housing is a hot spot for leaks on these engines. Seal your backplate, carb throat, hsn housing and header with sensor-safe, high-temp, copper Rtv. Make your adjustments in 1 hour increments only, allowing a couple of minutes in between for the adjustment to take(once you begin to tune).

Thanks for that.

Like I said the factory settings for LSN state 10.5 to 11.5 turns out. Could that be half turns out??

Anyway I'm not sure that is all my problem. The 'eraticness' of the idle seems to be down to airleaks though right?

Do you have the stock fuel tank on that or is it an after market one?

Yeah... that sounds lean or like a nasty air leak causing it to be lean.

10.5-11.5 turns out is probably from completely seating the LSN. Not from flush with the housing like most mfr's describe.

Actually... I just bought a picco 28 off a forum member, this is good info for me! Never had a picco before this. Probably won't run it for quite some time, but I could check the manual and see how it reads to maybe get an idea for you. The settings probably aren't the same, but the method/terminology may be.

Are you actually running it inside your house? Your not married are you... lol!

Yes it does seem like it's leaking al over the place. Time to seal it up me thinks...

I had another thread going last night on the Traxxas Forum but it was removed it as we were talking about picco. Shame as some guy came back and said I may have the wrong instructions! Turns out I did as he sent me this page from Ofna (which is useful to anyone with a Picco) with the PROPER settings for my engine. Brilliant! Mine is at the bottom and it Basically says I had to open throttle, turn needle all the way in, then 7.5 turns out.
There's also some really useful words on their How-to Guides pages too that reminds me of the patience I need right now

I am married but she's out for the night so the cats are running scared!:D

Yeah it the larger pro-line run time tank. I bought the truck second hand and was trying to route for leaks via elimination so bought a new tank. Seemed like a larger one would be good! came with 'high pressure' fuel lines too.

Thanks for the link to the ofna page as i am in the process of breaking in a .26 max. there is good info on that page.
