My Brother just got a NTC3 RTR and the damn thing will not start. I did notice that when you plug the stinger and pull the cord there is no fuel flowing to the carb. I thought that it might be the carb being closed. But I closed it and then tried re-setting the needles. The LSN flush with the carb and the HSN 3 turns out. Mind you that the carb restrictor is still there but never found this to be a problem. I verified that it wasn't shutting closed; there is still 1mm showing with the brakes applied. Help me out guys. Funny thing happened when I was priming it with the stinger covered and me tugging away at the cord that I guess so much pressure built up popped the fuel line off at the tank side from the carb. It was like a geyser blowing!

Help a brother out!!

I found the best way to get a fiest mill to start is by putting it on the starter box, & tweaking the needles till it kicks over...
Just use a good glow starter & fresh plug...

I know there is a problem with fuel delivery. But since it isn't mine I really can't try new things on it.

I was thinking of taking off the carb and making sure the carb was assembled right from the factory.

You know, there's really no way to screw up the assembly of a carb...

here's what i'd do for problem solving

First thing i'd do is pull the pressure line and fuel line off, blow into the pressure line, and see if fuel comes out of the fuel line. If it doesn't, it's either some poopy fuel line, or you've got a messed up tank.

Next, i'd probably reconnect the pressure line, then drop a small amount of fuel into the carb and try to turn it over. Hopefully it'll start. If it does, then watch to see if fuel comes out of the fuel line. This'll tell you if there's enough pressure coming from the exhaust (which will lead to a carb problem, if there is one)

Then i'd reconnect everything, make sure the needles are set to factory, and then try just starting her up.

If all else fails, then i'd take apart the carbeurator...but that'd be a last resort. But i'll bet you just have the LSN screwed way to far in...

You might also want to try just opening up the carb a bit when you start it up, you may just have the carb closed too much...I always set my idle by sound and clutch engagement instead of relying on how open it's set at

I actually didi all that you said but take the carb apart. I richened up BOTH needles and still saw no fuel flowing. The fuel should flow with the method I said in an earlier post. I think the carb is F'ed up. I will check that tomorrow.

Hmmm...carb may need to be cleaned I guess...although I dunno how you'd really clean a carb.

So you already tried bring up the idle a whole bunch?

yup. This was a rtr version and my brother has never gotten this thing started for more than 5 minutes. I checked the plug and it shine bright. I thought it may have been Hydrolocked so I tried clearing that out and still nothing. I know that no ones perfect as my first MT12 with a rotary carb had the carb all messed up. This AE12 is a mystery to me. No Idea. I will check the carb first thing.

Thanks for the input. just wanted to make sure I wasn't leaving anything else to try out.

That ass12 motor that comes with the RTR NTC3 is a good one. I won a couple of novice events with it.

I no longer use it, but went in and checked the needle turns for you: LSN is 3,1/2 out, and HSN is flush with the casing. Try those and tune from there. Turn in the idle screw a touch for higher idle starting.

I would recommend using a regular C cell battery glow plug ignitor that you don't have to recharge. Those damn rechargables run low all the time. You can also try a buddy's bump start, even with the pull installed.

Hope this helps

Hey Jon.
Sometimes there can be a gummy build up in the needle.
This has worked for me in the past when I left fuel in the tank, or havent used a car in a while.
Back the high speed needle out all the way. Dont lose the rubber washer.
Put your finger over the pipe, and pull the pull start.
If there is a build up in there, that should push it out.
Give it a try. you have nothing to lose. Just watch your eyes!!!
Don't squirt yourself in the face.
Put it back together, and back out the hsn 3 turns and see what happens.
LMK if that works out for you.

Thanks I will try that tonite!!!

Jon

since u said its would run for longer than 5 min. id suggest replacing the tank since i had that problem where itll run but afer 5 min itd die. after i changed the tank it was fine. sometimes they just try mass producing things way to quickly and end up messing up.

No this would not start at all unless I primed it with gas directly in tha carb.

I went to my bros house and he didn't want me to touch rather I take my AE 12 Carb off and see if it was the carb. I wanted to back out the HSN needle and see if it was all clogged because that is my bet. the HSs can be screwed out till it is open but nothin. I think the HSN has crap in the nipple and needs to be flushed out. I am going to "borrow" his car and do it myself. I am the one working on the rides anyways. I come to his forum with questions for him so I might as well just do it. Lol.

Thanks fellas for all the advice. I will let you guys know. To tell you the truth I am pretty sure he is going to sell this to me. Lol

Oh well. I will keep all of you guys posted with the results.

Jon

So what happened with this car? Did you get it started?

ok here is the update. I backed out the HSN as Kwong suggested and guess what.. the fuel comes through. The Instant I place it back in..no fuel. I think the carb is F'ed up. I a, going to take the carb off and place a spare AE 12 carb on and see what happens. This one truely has me stumped. All the known problems I have checked for are all fine but this carb is really pissing me off!! ANy other suggestions?
