New Mugen MBX5R engine selection help please

Hello all,
I am about to order a Mugen MBX5R and I am having trouble deciding what engine is best suited. I will be racing a good technical track so I need some low down power but am just looking for a good reliable engine over-all.

I am mostly looking at Novarossi Engines..

Can you guys give me your opinions on what engine I should get please?

Also do these engines come with flywheel, cluth bell etc or do I have to purchase these too?

Purchasing the Mugen Kit, Engine and already have electrics (Futaba 3PM, Hitec Servo's)

What else would I need to purchase to complete the buggy? etc flywheel..

Don't rule out RB. I have a fairly worn C4 in my MBX5.... For being as worn as it is, the thing has some serious power. I think they're up to the C7 or C8 now. Their WS series of engines are great too.

Just make sure, when ordering, to get an OFFROAD engine and not an ONROAD one.

I have looked at the other engines but I do really want a novarossi engine. I have seen only good things from these engines as far as lasting long and tune-ability etc..

as it stands now I have peiced together a package with a 21-5KT and exhaust and manifold and its actually cheaper to buy the Hot Mods Plus 2 367 7 Port engines which I am sure would be a great engine.

buying from amain, I see that novarossi is infact not that much dearer then all the other brands anyway including OS V-spec's.
unless i am looking at the wrong ones?

That looks ok and it should come with a flywheel and clutchbell! I have an MBX5R with a Mr Ninja MR21 BO1A, with an EFRA 2053 pipe, sportsworks flywheel an JR servos
It is the best BUGGY I have ever had, bar none. Good choice and good luck.

Rossi all the way...I still have my original P-5 with over 20 gallons on it and it's still got good compression....it's just a dependable little mule.....
and you should get a flywheel / CB / shoes in your Mugen kit......

+1 on the P5 series motors from Nova. They are awesome motors i have a P5X and i have a few buddies with the new P5XS's and they haul the motors start and tune easy and are dependable to boot

I ended up deciding against Nova, any nova i picked (which was hard enough) i seemed to find too many horror stories. For the money you pay for them I wasn't happy. granted they would be one of the most popular engines used so there would be more stories than other motors going around but I had no real way of judging that other than comparing against another engine i picked.

I ordered;
Mugen MBX5R kit
OS Engines V-Spec
new starter box (OFNA)
OS 2060 pipe set (2050 not avail anymore replaced with 2060)
and a bunch of 203 air filters and p3 glow plugs.

can't wait til they arrive.

already have a Futaba 3PM 2.4ghz and Hitec ultra torque servo's ready to go...

v-specs r good but make sure ur breakin is done properly.(heat cycle) the v-specs tend to throw con rods and pins. We had our opening day @ hx-raceway in bossier city LA. I had a great 3 quals then right off the starting gride in the a-main SNAP! and the night was over. Bought a o.s. speed alot of those problems from the old batch of v-specs were claimed to be fixed in the speeds.

I have a Modified Ninja .21 in my buggy, and I'm really beginning to love this engine. For soo long I've been running cheap taiwan engines, not knowing what I was missing.

From what I remember, it was several years ago when OS brought out the V-specs that there were some early problems.They had all of that fixed VERY soon after. So The new V-specs and the Speeds should be fine.

The OS just won't last as long as the rossi will....I haven't seen a rossi die in less than 10 gallons but I've seen too many to count OS mills die early....they were probably run waaay harder than they should have been but so were the rossis.....

ill tell ya a good set up cl. bell and shoe/spring set up for ur spec. is a mugen 13t bell dynamite 7075 shoes w/ mugen 1.0 springs. but of course the speed doesn't need much help but this setup has on hell of a :boxingunch

Good motor for a Buggy..Novarossi Plus 21-7BT..no need to mod it, It has silly power, It actually has to much power for all, maybe 2 or 3 percent of the drivers can use the power, it has to much power for most tracks..great bottom end punch and it has sooo much power on the top, With the Novarossi you need to run a spring or rubber band on the throttle. (I know that you should always run one but if you walk around the pits and look about 75% dont run one) every novarossi i have ever had when you let off it takes a bit for it to idle down..make jumps a ***** if you let off..lol..I like the 21-7 more than the 21-5, seems to have better punch off the corners and the same top end.
