My friend broke his pullstart chord on his MGT too. It wasn't even a hard pull and it didn't get stuck or anything. They must be really weak from the factory.

I use the drill. Love it.
I don't think that i will pullstart, unless the drill dies.
I use a starter box for all my other cars.
Pull starting sucks in my opinion.

regular drill? and does it matter what rpm u turn your engine over? Should i go with a low speed setting on the drill?
Sorry for the dumb questions but i need to know b4 i start to use the drill start hehe

The cord ripped @ mid point when i was trying to start her for my 4th tank i didnt flood the engine either, it pulled easily and my ride usually starts 1st few pulls. i am careful with the pull start, it just ripped on its own, think its just a really weak cord. Should be an ez fix i hope ! never rebuilt a pullstart b4

Was the chord dirty with oil and did it looked frayed in the area of the "rip"? If so, you may have too much oil leaking past your backplate into the starter. This can cause to the break down of the line and eventual breakage.

As for ease of repair...pull starts take patience. If you have a ton of that, you can easily repair any pull start in minutes. I repair them without too much difficulty.

As for stronger line, I use stock TRAXXAS pullstart chords for my rebuilds. They work just fine and are inexpensive.

i double checked what u said SkyMaxx and no there is no oil or moisture on the chord, it looks more like it just tore appart rather then a fraying effect. 1st time the chord snapped on my was during the break in process(ripped @ the handle) just after a few pulls!. Bottom line I think Ae is to blame for this weakpoint. really weak chord!
Thx for your help SkyMaxx

guess one day ill attempt to fix the pullstart but for now ill stick to the drill start which seems to be working great :)

I set my drill on high speed. starts in 3 or 4 seconds.
Its the way to go for my money..
my pullstart has never been touched.

Just got a new MGT a few days ago. Am likin' it so far. I want to race tomorrow (Sunday) if the weather cooperates. Did the steering bellcrank, servo-saver upgrade kit, with new Hitec digital steering servo and JR radio gear.

Poncho, I saw you have a .26 in your MGT. Is the drivetrain holding up to that power level? I have a spare Picco .26 (2.7hp rated) hanging around but I don't want to put that engine in if it's just going to start eating up the drivetrain components.

The dual-start option should be standard on all nitro vehicles. Use the drill when you got it, but you have the pull-start for emergencies. That's a very clever and well thought design.

Can anyone recommend a quieter pipe, that will boost low end AND allow the possible substitution of the .26 engine?

asked the same question and jon2 said The Cvec pipe will work nicely and lowers the exhaust tone!!

I have been racing my mgt with a picco .26 for a while with "no" problems. I replaced the rear shock tower with an aluminum one. Also the front skid was replaced For the number of crashes I've been involved in the mgt is a proven performer in my eyes. Poncho

agreed i have a MGT and SaVaGE and must say that the MGT is my Fav of the 2
gonna sell my Savage soon :)
