So I just got the used MGT I traded my rc10gt for. The truck apperes to be in great condition.

As far as hop ups go, it has aluminium rear arms and shock tower, and thats about it.

What things should I address on the truck? You know preventitive maintenance.

I will probably be going with aluminium front Arms, just to match the back. I can't see takeing the aliminium stuff off to put the rpm stuff on that I prefer.

At anyrate, get me started on something to do with this thing.

I'm not an MGT owner, but I would take the Al. arms off, sell em, then buy RPM's all way round.... Just my opinion... Have fun & good luck with it..

I think I'm with ya on this one. I just wonder if I can get a decent amount for em?

This truck will be for bashing at first, and as the need hits me, may turn into a racing rig later down the road.

Brandon, The first thing I did was changed the stock break to the Robo break.
Second was the Forward only conversion. You wont have reverse anymore after that mod.
I would replace the Aluminum with RPM also.
Welcome to the "MGT owners club".
I was gonna trade Trigger for that truck. Is it nice?

it is in pretty good shape. I don't really have a whole lot to go off of since I've been away from the hobby for some time. But it appears to be in good shape. Needs some new bumper supports and what not, but other then that.

I have been racing the crap out of mine. I have not yet broken anything. I cannot believe how good it is holding up. I put on a set of 40 series Bowties and that really helped the handling. My next quest is to lighten it up, prolly by removing reverse and maybe even one of those lightened chassis that I saw somewhere. It's definitely a heavy truck, but very rugged, from my experience. I put a GH cooling head on and now use Odonnell fuel (was using Blue Thunder), so now it runs cool too. I love this truck.

However, a buddy just got the Losi LST and I am likin' that too. ;-)

just put the first tank through the MGT I picked up from trigger off here.

Besides the sterring a suspension needing alot of tweeking, it appeared to be in tip top running condition. Thing fires right up.

The break isn't really working all that well, and like I already mentioned, steering leaves alot to be desired, but other then that it appears to be in great running order.

I think I'm going to have to change the shocks and springs along with the break first. It's soft and kinda un responsive.

I take off the bumper extensions as they are easily broken. Listen to IMBROKEN and replace the arms with RPM ones ( I did ) . Of course replace the steering servo. I run a JR 650 servo. I bought extra diffs and cases and a tranny then added silicone oil. I added bearings to the steering assembly. I added a RC-solutions cage and its really light but I haven't really put it to the durability test yet. I have all the spurs and CB to run. Took out the stock radio and I run my XR3i and a tiny Novak XXL FM receiver. Thats about it

for spares, I would buy a shock tower, the CVD rebuild kit, and look into an aluminum front skid plate. the only thing I have broken on my MGT is the skid plate, shock tower, and the CVD's seemed to fall apart. i concour on buying the RPM a-arms, and digital steering servo. A tuned pipe is a good option, so is a fuel filter, and rigging up a throttle return spring

all good info guys. I did manage to break both the upper and lower control arms on one side of the front this past weekend. So I'll be ordering 4 sets or rpm arms here very soon. I've got the fuel filter covered, and I'll probably go ahead and get an aluminium front shock tower to match the back one.

All of my posts have disappeared... anyhow upgrades you should consider are...
Aluminum knuckles, aluminum shock bodies and caps, red springs, cvd rebuild kit (I have found that if you over tighten the set screw you will break the cross pin... just good and snug w/ blue locktite) extra wheels you will spin the center out from hard cornering and acceleration. Bumper braces ( use drywall screws they hold better )
I have not broken anything but cvd's, knuckles, shocks (big jumps) and of course the bumper braces. Tough truck will have my SUT body done tomorrow or Sat will post a pic.
Nice to see more people posting in this group

Just a little update on my earlier post to this thread. I did the FOC, plus removed the pull-start, and I cut off all the fake shock reservoirs. That shaved almost one pound off the truck!

My MGT had been handling funny, so I started looking around and found all kinds of little problems. I had three cracked a-arms. Front diff pinion was stripped out. My turnbuckles in the rear were toast, just plain worn out. Some shocks were low on fluid, plus missing the little bushings on inside-top shock mounts. Loose screws here and there, plus some pillow balls loose. Also, I have been having a bitch of a time with wheels loosening up. Finally started locktiting the wheel nut threads and that has helped immensely.

The MGT is a great truck, it just needs maintenance like any other.

I just doubled up the nuts on each wheel to keep them from coming loose and spinning out the hex,it's worked great for me.just get some 5mm locknuts from the lhs, haven't had a wheel come loose since.

I recently just traded for an MGT as well...the truck has the dual tank conv. Should I keep it that way? or should I take one tank out? they don't seem to have many bodies for this truck huh?

New SUT body

Here is the pics of my new body.
My friend did it for me.

canadian, I can't believe I didn't think to double up the wheel nuts. Good tip.

yeah, doubleing up the wheel nuts is a great idea.

As far as the bodies go, anything that will fit a savage or other large monster truck will fit.

hmmm, you are talking about the ones for the longer style chassis right?

Brandon

Any standard hpi savage body will fit, unless you go for something like the grave digger
body or something like that, that needs the taller rear body post mounts.
Any pickup body will fit.
Any proline body that says savage will fit.
There are many to chose from.
