RC Driving Style
Today I am a proud owner of an lst2. I have owned nitro rc's previously.

I followed engine break in procedures laid down by the manual. By the third tank I was running it full throttle, when all of a sudden, it slowed down.

now, even when I apply full throttle it only goes 10 mph. very sluggish. I let the engine cool, and started it up again. same problem. I have practically no experience with the lst2, so any advice would be greatly appreiciated.

Am I correct in assuming that the engine spools up fine, but the truck moves slowly?

Start with the clutch. When I had my first LST the clutch bearings flung out allot of grease making the clutch slip. Second try cleaning the 2speed OWB with DA and relube with a small amount of thin bearing oil.

Ok, do the RPM's of the engine go up and the truck is slow? Or do the RPM's of the engine not go up and the truck is slow?

We need to narrow down if it's an engine/tuning issue or something else.

The something else not engine specific related would be:
1) your stuck in LOW via the high/low knob on the trans.
2) clutch bell shoes fried or glazed or oiled
3) slipper is too loose
4) slipper pads got fuel/oil on them
5) 1st gear OWB is jacked up
6) 2nd gear is not engaging
7) 2nd gear is engaging, but shoes are slipping
8) engine flywheel came loose.

sorry for the confusing response.

here's what happens:
1. low rpm, feels like the engine is bogged down
2. its too slow to engage second.

Also, olds 97 ss, I live in sycamore!

does the engine sound fine at an idle?

try looking all of the way through the drivetrain. start at the wheels and work you way back to the engine. make sure nohting is stuck or slipping.

yes, it sounds ok.

one thing I noticed is, out of the box, it had a really low idle. the engine would die if you kept it idling more that 5 seconds. I have to get my finger on the trigger to keep it alive

If thats the case, I could swing by and give you a hand if you'd like. I'm always on the lookout for more basher buddies.

PM me and we can discuss.

Typical for new engines due to the richness of factory settings. As it breaks in and you lean it out, the engine idle will pick up. Adjusting the idle so it will idle on it's own is a good idea though. Then it won't be so frustrating. You can later adjust it as you see fit as the engine breaks in.

Another thing, I feel no resistance when I roll it on the ground.

I'm not 100% positive on the LST2's, but you don't want a lot of resistance when you give it a push. It should roll a few feet on it's own (when not running), that means that nothing is in a bind. My LST1 will go 4-6 feet (that's a guess-tamit) with a decent push.

By taking it up to full throttle, would it change the tuning needles?
