First off, hey to everyone. I've already been using this site for info but wasn't registered and everyone seems really helpful here. Thanks in advance for the future help.

Now, it's probrably been 18 years since I have owned an RC car and this is my first nitro, but I have been working on cars for about 14years and I've been an aircraft mechanic for almost 10 years so i'm mechaniclly inclined atleast.
I picked up a revo 3.3 #5309 last week, the guy who had it before me didn't use it much, but he didn't know very much about it either. Tune was way way off, tires on backwards, horrible play between the bell and spur gears, etc etc. I got it in running order and tuned it up pretty good. About 30 minutes of running it pretty good after that and the clutch bell broke taking out about 4 teeth and the clutch shoes ripped off the mounting pins. What could have caused this? By the way it was an integy 40t steel spur and I think it used to be a 16t steel bell.
While I had the engine out I was looking it over and noticed turning the flywheel for one full stroke of the piston was a little easier than I thought it should be. Put some WD-40 in there and turned it over again and on the compression stroke bubbles and audible air were leaking down between the piston and sleeve, visible through the exhaust port. I'm guessing the sleeve and or piston is worn. or are these motors supposed to leak some compression like that, I doubt it.

So good time to go ahead and throw in a picco .26 Maxx right:D I'm building a list of parts and would love some input from you all. It's being used for general driving around, jumping, sand driving, and hauling some a**. All input welcome.
So far.
1: Picco .26 Maxx
2: New era engine mount
3: Dynamite 053 pipe
4: Ofna manifold??
5: Clutch shoes??
6: 36t spur 17t bell
7: Slipper clutch rebuild
8: Shock oil 50F 60R
9: Wing kit??- Just to protect head
10: Glow plugs
11: Sway bar kit
??= Not sure which to get.
#4 is to attach large pipe to small exhaust port, is this the right part.
Truck already has silver and blue springs and the 40t integy spur is still intact. Tires are stock talons with good tread left.

Not switching to FWD only yet so no center diff. Let me know what i'm missing or have wrong or could have better thanks again everyone.:)

I would get yourself some RPM suspension arms, they are great for bashing, they will never let you down. Then get a Integy 3 shoe aluminum clutch and for wheels I use Losi 8ight T XXT tires on 1/2 offset wheels with 17mm hub.My buddy has that Picco Max.26 with Dynamite 053 sidepipe and it kicks a**.Have fun with your new toy.

+1 on RPM arms. I'd probably go with the true-track on the rear and standard RPM arms on the front.

And RPM carriers for the front:

I'm not sure you want a BB pipe with that engine. Maybe others can step in and help with that. HPI makes a header that works nice for side exhaust on the revo with the stock engine. The picco engine uses the stock header I believe.

I'd think going with a jato 3.3 pipe or chromed two chamber traxxas resonator pipe for the jato (if one exists) and a HPI side exhaust header would be a decent combo for that engine.

The stock traxxas CB's don't hold up to steel spurs. RRP should have a 1M pitch bell that is hardened that would work with the stock clutch size on the revo. It would hold up with a steel spur much better.

Here are RRP's bells:

HPI headers for side exhaust for 1/10 exhaust port:

Short: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFAZ8&P=7

Maybe use the short one if you end up with a 1/8 pipe.

Here's the jato 2 chamber:

And single chamber:

Usually can find the single chamber on ebay fairly cheap.

Thanks for the reply. I plan on getting different arms but will wait till I brake one of these first, definitly RPM. Also I was looking at that clutch, mainly so the shoes won't rip off the posts again. Does that kind of setup work well (aluminum shoes on aluminum flywheel, does it get enough bite)? The truck has aluminum hex hubs but it has stock wheels. what size are the stock hexes.

Stock are 14mm for the older revo. I think the newest model has 17mm.

Aluminum shoes bite pretty hard, but they do require consistent maintenance to keep them from getting hung up or melting down. Nova makes some pretty good ones out of 7075 alloy. Not sure I'd go with integy's. Tried those once a long time ago and they melted down pretty quickly.

The carriers should be a good replacement when I break the stockers, I can't see them being a necesity for this setup.

Wow thanks for all the info.
I am planning on a true track rear and front rpm arms but will wait till I break a stocker.
I will look into your exhaust info but I thought the picco maxx is a large bore engine in a small shell and has small bore exhaust port, it should still push the same amount of exhaust as a BB(just a tad less because of port size, but that will just increase velocity) so I would think a BB Pipe would work best. I could be wrong though, wouldn't be the first time:)
I'm mainly looking for parts that are considered a necessity for for the revo 3.3 with the .26 motor and things that should be replaced now so they don't screw something else up.

"The stock traxxas CB's don't hold up to steel spurs. RRP should have a 1M pitch bell that is hardened that would work with the stock clutch size on the revo. It would hold up with a steel spur much better."

The CB that shattered was a steel one. The stock one is plastic correct?

Usually spurs are plastic, but CBs are steel/aluminum. What he meant if you upgrade to a steel/aluminum spur gear, the stock Traxxas CB won't hold up to it very well and to get the hardened CB for it instead.

Thanks for clarifying for me motogod.

Yes, many "stock" CB's won't hold up to non-plastic spurs. Usually you can find hardened steel CB's that will work fine with it though, like the RRP ones I linked.

Sweet, thanks. The guy I bought it from said the stock spur and CB were plastic but like I said he didn't know what he was doing at all. I thought the CB felt like aluminum, well, aluminum bell with steel teeth. Makes sense too cause the bell is what shattered and took the teeth with it.

My buddy has that Picco Max.26 with Dynamite 053 sidepipe and it kicks a**.Have fun with your new toy.

Do you know how he has it coonected to the exhaust port on the picco. You have to have some kind of reducer or large seal. I don't know if the ofna manifold is what I need or not, I will post a link to it when I get home from work in the morning.

I think some were using a BB header, BB header gasket, then a SB header gasket. Sounds a bit "hack" to me, but I recall some using that with the pro-line revo pipe since the SB header that came with it didn't fit many engines as it was designed to fit the TRX2.5/TRX3.3.

I see, just stacked the 2 gaskets. Should work but I would much rather have a reducer of some sort or a single gasket. I'll look into it some more, if I have to stack gaskets for now I will. Thanks for the info.

Get the wing kit !!!! When fitting the wing kit, drill through the wing mount "Claw" that fits over the rear body mount post cross brace and put two bolts in (can get a photo to aid explanation if required) it stops the "Claws" from pulling away when u land on your lid and put pressure on the wing. It also means you can carry the Revo by the wing aswell (much as i do with buggies)

Also, if you can get an XTM "XLB" (Xtra Large Buggy) 1/7 buggy wing and fit, its broader and taller than any stock revo sized one and will do more to protect the engine head. I run one on my Revo 2.5 and it also made it "Fly" better and control better when air born.

As to integy, i'm suprised nobody here has yet told you to steer clear of the company. HOWEVER, thats a different story.

Tekin Wing Kit is a direct bolt on. No drilling required. Pro Line Wing rounds it out nicely ;-)

i disagree with the pro line wing idea, an XTM XLB 1/7 buggy wing is better, sorry, but it does more to protect the revo and is a good flight aid

Thanks for the info guys. Thunder Tiger, I understand what you mean about mounting it, but do you have a picture of a revo with that 1/7th wing on it, curious to see how big it looks on the truck. Also would I have to use the mount for that wing or will the tekin mount work with it. I'm guessing I would use the tekin mount since it's made for the revo right?

Ok, heres the pics i was talking about.

First up, a head on picture

Next, a front three quarter view

And finally, some ariel shots. You will have to excuse the "can't" of the wing, these pics were taken before i drilled and fixed the front "Claws" of the wing mount in place and after i had just run the revo, hence it is covered in grass.

I can get a couple more pictures of the wing if needed, and also, i am in the process of taking a picture of the stock wing mount with the holes drilled and bolts fitted to keep it in place.

AND BEFORE ANYONE ASKS, the big a$$ zip tie was used to carry the rig in place of the handle and only until i fixed the wing in place with bolts, the zip tie has now been removed.

Hope these pics help you decide.

BTW, the stock/standard Traxxas wing mount works just fine with this wing :)
