Hi all new to this website :) I have an old Maximum ST rc truck, what engine would be a straight swap with more acceleration and torque, currently it has a torq.12 engine. Would this car handle a .18 or would i be better off with .15? Thanks

Brian.

An OS engine would just drop in but with that truck being that discontinued, if you're out running and break something heaven forbid, then you'll have a truck with a new engine that will be hard to fix. If you still want to put an engine in it then buy a cheaper motor rather than by an OS .18. I've owned an st and they're great trucks but with the lack of parts support, I let it go to a friend getting into the hobby. Hope this helps, Steve.

Thanks for the reply, ah parts for this car aren't too bad to get my lhs still had about 70% and I find bits around the internet too, but maybe I should buy a new truck and pass this on, I'll have a think about it thanks again :)

Whats your view on a HPI Nitro Star g3.0 engine, would it be ok for the Max ST? is it a cheap engine and would i better off with the little more expensive os .15?

Brian.

I think that motor would fit and give you a nice gain in the HP department. Their also a little bit cheaper than the OS engines. I was considering one myself for my first gen tmaxx but went with the OS instead.

ok thanks, i think i'll go with the hpi engine, cos I'm not looking for high spec motor its only to keep the truck going with a bit more power.

Thanks again.

is there anything else i'll need when changine the engine apart from the motor itself?

Brian.

I would consider using a fresh manifold gasket, a new collet for the flywheel and a new clutch because all of that has to come off when you make the swap. I would go with a newer flywheel this way your clutch options would be better and easier to find a performance clutch. I think even a traxxas 2.5 flywheel would work because thas what I put on my tmaxx and I found a sweet clutch that did not break he bank.

Ok thanks for the reply, ill look into getting one of them also so :)

Thanks again, Brian
