New Engine help

Hey Guys, I just got an HPI STAR K5.9 for my Savage XL. I've been having a bit of trouble. It's brand new, and I can't get it to start to break it in. I can turn it over with my roto start with no plug and no gas in it fine. As soon as I put gas and the plug in (even loosely) it seems to seize on me at the top of the cycle. I then need to get my vice grips out and loosen it up with the roto wand since it's so tight. I've tried after run oil and cycling it a few times to lube it, but then the same problem happens. I put gas and a plug in it and kaput. I heard it fire for about 3 seconds once and it sounds amazing but then it stopped.

Any help or suggetions would be appreciated

check what the factory settings are first. i have seen before that it says 4 turns and it 5 or 6 this way you have a good starting point.
i would pull the glow plug out and crank it a few times to make sure it is not loaded up with fuel, then i would make sure the glow plug is working then install it but keep it loose about 1/2 turn. when you go to start it leave the glow ignitor on even if it starts and let it run for a little bit and let us know

I haven't changed the needles at all, it's still brand new. When it gets stuck at the top, I have to really crank it to get it unstuck. It's almost as if the piston and the sleeve are too tight. That's what I meant.

yes that is how alot of engines are when new

you can heat the engine up aliitle with a hair dryer and it will crank over easier then try and start it

Ohhh a hairdryer! I was thinking about throwing it in the oven for a few mins.

you could use a cordless drill to turn your roto starter. it should have enough torque to crank it through the top of the sleeve. Idealy you should pre heat the engine though to loosen the fit.

If the roto start won't turn it DO NOT use a drill! You will end up damaging the one way bearing. As mentioned above,heat it up and leave the plug slightly loose and you should be good.

I use a drill all the time...I have yet to replace a one way bearing....like I said though...the proper thing to do would be to preheat the engine but if you're in a pinch....

Yea, I'm not too worried about the bearing. I think the engine sleeve is just so tight that it isnt turning over. I'll heat it up and see what happens

I think you're flooding it. If it turns over with no plug then it's not too tight.
