RC Driving Style
i was thinking about getting a electric car for drifting. i dont care if it is a kit or rtr. i dont really know what the price is on electric rc's so nothing over $600. would i need to put pvc on the rims for better drift action?

wow that is really cheap. it is durable. upgradeable, would i need to replace the motor?

Yes you'd need to upgrade the motor. Not much upgrades out for it, and don't know about durability, but it's a nice cheap kit if all you want to do is some drifting here and there, but if you want something a little more w/ a reputation you could get a AE TC4 and convert that to a drifter.

i was thinking i might want to race a little with it. i was thinking about racing my rush but i realized i can't tune nitro if my life depended on it. i take it electric is alot easier.

Well, and the rush is pretty unresponsive compared to others, and would require al. susp. arms, f4i chassis w/ lay-down servo conversion, graphite upper deck, new engine, new tires, new body (who wants to be seen w/ a rush at the track, lol :jk: ) new radio sys. and a few other things to be competitive w/ the xxx-nt's and rc10's IMO.

i dont really like my rush it was my first rc and i regret buying it. i am looking at a few Different rc like like the savage but then i seen a 1/5 bigfoot and i think no tuning but i look at the price. then the electric drifter i would love them all but i am broke.i was thinking about selling my rush but then who would want it and i just put a lot of crap in it rims, tires, titanium turnbuckles, pull start, springs, racing fuel tank and, a new air filter. in the past two months.

Any electric can be used as a drift car. You can either get the rubber tires with the plastic inserts like the ones for the yokomo electric or just slap on some pvc piping. You won't really need a "high performance" motor since it will drift no matter what because of the loss or lack of traction.

Drifting is overrated! I just bought a TC3 and I thought it would be cool to drift it... its not. You have to have the perfect surface to go anywhere (or the wheels just spin) and If you plan to only drift on the sidewalk, get ready to fetch your car over and over and over again.. I'm not trying to turn you down from drifting.. I'm just trying to save you time and money.

I'm not sure about the abs pipe and if it has more traction, but pvc really sucks imo. just letting you know. Touring cars are built and meant for racing. If you don't race and don't plan to race, it gets boring real fast. you just gotta think about it.

I have heard that ABS has more traction becasue it is a vinyl (I think) I think drifting is cool and saw a thing on tv were they where drifting rc cars about a track.

Buggy racer I think you missed the whole point of drifting....you DON'T WANT TRACTION.....the idea is to control the slide and make it go where you want to....it's definately helped me learn way faster lines when I race 1/8 scale......I can control my car better in a long sweeping slide and keep speed out of the turn better than a lot of guys who don't drift.....Dimu, just get a stock TC3 and add ABS wheels, a rear sway bar, IRS CVDs, and the BRP front rear, side bumpers and beefy diffs.....get an novak XRS ESC and whatever radio gear you got layin around.....you can pick all that stuff up on fleabay for less than 175.....drifting is fun but you do need a pseudo smooth surface...it's even more fun when you have a bunch of guys playing like crash derby, the cars just bounce off each other cause they have no traction and can't go super fast.....and BTW stock motors are the best for drifting cause they have all the low end torque you need for it.....

the yokomo rings suck....they don't stay on...when they peel off you get traction on one wheel and it screws up the drift.....ABS wheels are by far the best that I've used....no plastic shards and chunks like the PVC gives off

I have a Tamiya TT-01 chassis, and so do some other people. It is 4wd (never try to drift 2wd's, it doesn't work) It runs about $90 lhs's for the kit.

For drifting, you dont want a high rpm motor. You want a motor with torque. I am using the stock motor from my tt-01 and it works excellent. Otherwise, the silvercan 540 motors are good. If you want to race also, get 2 different motors.

I use pvc to drift. It is a bit unrealistic, but works well. Most of the people on the other drifter forums, and in the SG-Drifting videos use ABS. It is black, so looks more realistic, and it slides a bit less because of more grip.

I would say look for a 4wd chassis, stay with a high torque motor, and get abs tires.

and if you need to know how to mount the abs on rims, this is how I do it and it works great:

You need some 2'' diameter pvc or abs pipe at least 1 foot in length. Take your abs or pvc pipe, and get one of the following tools- pipe cutter, miter saw. I am sure there are more out there that work, but these are the best IMO. Cut 4 wheels out that are 1.5 inches thick. Then what I do is take the rims i am going to use, and wrap both sides of the rim about 2-3 times with electrical tape and then fit the pipe over it. You want enough tape on the rim so that it is fairly hard to get on. I end up putting my whole body weight to get them on... You want it to be on there very securly, so if you drift on a cement road, the pipe doesn't come off the rims. So if the pipe goes on really easy, take it off and put more tape on the rim, until you have a nice snug fit... Hope that helps.

ya thanks i am going today to get a tc4 and some abs pipe i am confused about batteries. what is the difference between a stick or cells? are cells better? do sticks last longer?

a stick is a certain number of cells put together already. Cells are individual batteries, for people that build there own packs.

i have been runing my tc4. it is soo much fun i didnt have anytime to go get abs pipe so i wraped my tires in electrical tape. it works great.
