I have my new crank case and I am trying to put the bearings in.

what do I need to do to get them to go in?

I have never done this before. So please dont make fun. I am learning as I do.

thanks

Don't worry about getting flamed its a totally valid question. It should be a very tight fit as it is going be a seal as well. put the bearing in the freezer for a couple hours and you can even heat up the crank case a bit by using a heat gun or the like. Use a piece of wood on top of the bearing when tapping it in or at least a rubber mallet, be patient and very sure that it is going in square so it doesn't bind unnecessarily.

There is a tool for the this job.I have seen the tool in action in pics from RCCA. Coach has a good idea but that means the bearing is sitting completely even and parallel to the crank case.

Here is the tool. Found it on JP Racing page. This is what it looks like.

The page I found it on

They come for different sizes so make sure you get the one you need.

I use a socket that just touches the outside race. Try not to hit the inside race or the seal as I can be messed up easy. Chilling down the bearing real good helps as coach mentioned.....be very careful I have seen cases ruined installing the bearings. Polish the inside of the case lightly...helps too. It you have access to an arbor press that would be the ticket.

I agree the cardboard is a good idea....the biggest thing is making sure it goes in straight...if it get crooked you run the risk of case damage. Don't get spooked I press bearings and bushings, ect. all the time just be cautious and don't just get crazy with the hammer and you will be GTG.

I dont know if I would freeze the bearing. I have done mine with great sucess simply by heating the block in the oven for about 15-20 minutes at 300 degress, then install the bearing.
