I forgot what the letters actually mean but basically it's a notice to dealers on what needs to be fixed and proceedures on a particular vehicle. Just pay attention because if you don't say a thing, the dealer isn't going to call you for a recall if nothing's said. That knocking noise you hear can pretty much be your cv joints since you have a 4x4. It's also common on front wheel drive vehicles.

My cousin has a 2001 Tahoe and it doesn't make that sound in a turn, in both 2 or 4wd. Basically, it's the play in the joint ... I would assume. Most vehicles that have that sound, that I know of, are high mile front wheel drive cars and/or trucks. Does it do it more pronounced in 4wd or autoshift mode?, accelerating or coasting into a turn?

I can't remember if your truck has an elctronic or thermal actuator for the 4wd, but I know some people that had their truck stuck in 4wd High and didn't know it. Check for TSB's on that also. I'm sorry, I don't have the website for checking TSB's on hand. If I can find it, I will post the link.

knocking in the front end is not good IMO you need to take it back and tell them they need to check out the ujoints in the front witch are a pain in the ass to change out. does it do it when you turn left and right?...you could also have a bad hub...

I will add to this when the sealed ujoints (factory)run out of greese they have no greese fittings in them to re lube them. they get dry and start poping this is not good...the ujoints Iam talken about are the ones that drive the front wheel drive. The left and right out on the spindles.

It's doesn't sound like a U-joint clicking to me. More like a loose shock, or something. It's very mild, and kind of goes in rythum with the swaying back, and forth feel a truck has when you are used to a car, and you turn a corner. Maybe it's a loose sway bar mount? Yes, it does it bothe left, and right, and I can feel it ever so slightly in the steering wheel. Like I said, I have 15 months, and 15K miles, so yes the dealer will be explaining it to me, and if I'm not happy with the answer, then another dealer will be explaining it to me. We'll see. Also, Diver, it has a lever on the floor for the 4x4, so I'm assuminf that means it is all linkage to the transfer case, but it has auto hubs, and that part I do not know. Thanks for the advise. This is my first 1:1 4x4.

I'm lost. Hard to diagnose without test driving. There's so many factors to be dismissed. If you can feel it in the steering wheel it can be the anything in the steering, sway bar, shocks, even the brakes out of spec.

Reagardless, take it to the dealer and if he says "it's normal" he doesn't know himself. I'd have them take care of it since it should fall under the warranty.

As far as the auto engagement, that's what the actuator is for (thermal or electronic), regardless if it's push button or lever.

I'll let you know what they say. Probably in the next couple of weeks. I don't want to keep it too long with out record of it incase they try to screw me. I guess this will be the test if I buy from this guy again. Thanks again for the comments.

Well, I took it in this past Friday, and they said the noise was from leck of grease in the steering shaft. I didn't know the steering shaft took grease. Oh Well, it doesn't make noise anymore, but I'll have to check into this.
