Never rock crawled **(Ordered Truck)**

Just saw the Extreme 4x4 show and the rock crawlers look like that may be something to get into. I saw they choose a Losi, is this the only one out there. Is the 1/18 or the 1/10 better. I sort of like the tiny 1/18 size but was wondering what would be more useful for just playing around and getting parts for.

1/10th scale is what most people run for competition. They work equally well for the casual rock crawler. I run the Losi Mini Rock Crawler (1/18the scale). I don't have a lot of room so I went a bit smaller.

I think Axial is the biggest name for crawlers now, lots of parts support for them too. There are far more knowledgeable people on this site that I'm sure will be along shortly to give you the real scoop. For now, check out Axial to sate your curiosity.

They showed both the losi mini 1.9 1/18th scale and Axial AX10 2.2 1/10th scale crawlers on the show as well as some scale builds that were Axial bases for the the most part, for general or competition rock crawling the 2.2 crawlers are the best way to go. The Axial AX10 based crawler has great aftermarket support.

I have the Axial artc and have really enjoyed it. It was highly reccomended by a couple of great fellas on this site who helped me decide which electronics to put on her. There's a lot you can do with them as far as upgrades. It would be helpful to know your budget?

Budget around $250. I was looking at this one too Axial RTC RC Rock Crawler Kit, $240,

What type of batteries for this one as it doesn't come with any, the old type nicad 7.2v. or does it take the little square type---- never mind, found the battery area, the charger is very expensive

Would like to get one with the radio and speed controller, and one that is well built but not breaking the bank, and could possibly add better parts later

This site doesn't look like they sell the batteries only the crawlers http://www.trail-gear.com/rc/kits.html

I'm debating over the 1/18 losi, or the axial. At least the losi has everything, but smaller

The smaller losi seems to fit into the budget

Well I decided to get the losi mrc, and the nice roll cage from hbz. Dont know what color ruck I will get as there wasn't a option but there was only 2 left. Has anyone bought this roll cage and will any other items need to be bought or does this bolt right up to stock truck. I tried searching online and was only able to find this pic so far. Anyone know the type of charger it comes with is it a quick one or overnight charger. Hard to find much info on the losi site.

Are there any must need parts, found some nice priced parts at tcs crawllers. Parts that will break and should be upgraded, I dont need any bling parts but I dont want to break or bend a part either. Not sure it thats possible, but I have no idea how much torque this thing puts out.

I'm getting excited and will make a small track in the backyard for it to practice on. Some reason I have alot of big rocks laying around and now I can put them to use.

That chassis is pretty cool. Like I said tires would be your first upgrade. Second I would say servo. RCBROS makes a nice fullsize servo mount and 4 link setup for these little guys.

Another good upgrade is the Aluminum threaded shocks for the MRC. The only other one is to upgrade the lockers in the transmission and the axles from plastic to aluminum or steel.

ya you should get metal lockers as well front, rear AND center. Also i would go with the 1/18 late model shocks. They dont leak as bad from what I hear. I run the losi crawler shocks and they do work good but they leak.

Yeah I didnt think this little crawler could be so hard on parts, I will keep them in mind and try to find some good prices for those. Any respectable places online to look for these parts, or brands to stay away from.
What sort of bummed me out was I sent in an e mail to the place I ordered from, making sure they had 2 in stock like the site said and they guy said 2 are coming in, in a couple of days. I've had this happen before from other stores where they sell you something when not in stock, even though this site said they were. Hopefully they arent lying because I hate waiting not knowing if its really coming in when I could possibly get it from another store.

The site is rc and me .com http://www.rcandme.com/losi-minirock-crawler-losb0222-p-2250.html?utm_campaign=export_feed&utm_medium=cse&utm_source=googlebase&m1track=googlebase&osCsid=91ff0029531e940f49ff6cb86d5bd856#googlebaseI did see if they had any complaints online but they weren't on the list. Only reason I chose them was of the free shipping. As long as I get the truck before thanks giving I will be pleased as I will be out of town for 3 weeks and was hoping to take it with me to do something while in a hotel. Some reason they also said I'm getting a special item along with the truck, whatever that means.

I see they are on e bay too with a 100% good rating so maybe they are okay, and wont string me along.

I appreciate all the help here.

the losi brand lockers or rcbros lockers are the best ones. Make sure the losi ones are the steel ones not plastic.

I found the rc bros site that sell the lockers, they say only 2 are needed, but you say 3. Just wanted to confirm this that I need 3.

Also rc bros sells a lithium battery for $12. Does the losi charger charge this, or is a different charger needed, and will the electronics that come with the truck work with no mods?

I did order another nimh battery and a 1hr charger with trickle since I read the losi charger takes around 5 hrs to charge.

The bent links, the ones under the frame are those a good upgrade, I guess it gives a little more height. Rc bros sells delrin ones and I sort of like those as maybe they will be more slick when going over rocks, but the kit has 2 bent and 2 straight, do I need a total of 4 bent for a even look?

I found this on another site, the middle locker is different

I would get the delrin ones. The bent aluminum ones break I have broken 2 of them. A lot of guys run straight in the front and bent in the rear. It helps with breakovers. You are right about the delrin it does slide much better than aluminum. Those are good lockers and yes you only need 2 and then the one losi center one. I still run the stock battery.

Well update, somewhat good news. I received an e mail saying the truck is shipping tomorrow from there Ca warehouse instead of there store, so maybe I will get it on the weekend since I paid $10 extra for 2 day air. Of course what confuses me is there saying I'm getting the promo package which includes battery, charger and battery plate? Not sure what that means and I double checked there site to make sure I'm not getting a truck only but a full ready to drive one with remote and battery etc.
Maybe they are including an extra battery and charger, who knows but it better be what they advertise as all included. http://www.rcandme.com/losi-minirock-crawler-losb0222-p-2250.html?osCsid=d2eed72e105100148f922f12ca85568f

Got another e mail from them, this is what I'm getting extra for free "This one is a promo package so it will include upgraded 7.4v 600mah lipo
battery/charger and free Carbon fiber battery plate.."

I'm now wondering if it doesn't come with the nimh battery, doesn't matter as I ordered another nimh and a quick charger anyways from another place. I hear the free losi chargers may take up to 5 hrs to charge so thats why I got the quick nimh wall charger.

Are the run times about the same, its just the lipo are smaller for the same amount of power as I assume I'm getting the cheapest batteries losi supplies
