Been awhile since iv been on here just so busy i havent driven my savage in awhile.

So literally its been a couple months since I've even started the truck. I decided to drive it one day and and fill it with fuel .... Connected the receivers battery to my charger and the charger do its thing while i watch tv.

Then after its done i go ahead and turn the radio on, then receiver operate the steering then tried to operate the throttle servo and it doesn't work.. then suddenly a pop and a small little poof of burning electronic smoke plooms out from under the cover over the throttle servo and i immediately turn off the switch and disconnect the battery. I check around to see if anything was arching and assumed maybe it was something with the connector it self... replaced it with my old stock steering servo and the same thing happens... lol so the only thing I'm thinking of is the battery over charged ?

But its never happened before so why would it suddenly happen now? I've been doing the same procedure on all my models for years and never had something like this happen...

So before i order a new servo and connect it i would like some of your thoughts on this matter ? the stock servo's are cheap so thats no worry but i dont feel like buying one after the other.

The receiver and steering servo seem to be perfectly fine but the throttle servo is the only one that took a hit.

Lastly to find out if i fried the receiver i connected it to my RC18 and its working perfectly with no issues. Literally since this has happened I've just been using the receiver on the RC18 just toying around but i miss my nitro.

Thanks for reading

what kind of charger did you use? i have never had a smart charger over charge a battery,But it does sound like a bad battery.

This is the same charger http://images.bidorbuy.co.za/user_images/045/614045_090703021151_100_2675.JPG

I think i found the problem, on the bottom of the charger there is a switch i forgot to flip to the correct setting... Its a switch thats for batteries for under or over 1500 MAH.. the battery in the truck is a 1200 MAH and i forgot to switch it to below 1500 mah.. I discharged the battery and plugged in a servo for a different vehicle and it works properly now. I gotta watch that next time.

now time to order a new servo.

In some cases yeah, some people spend tons of money but I'm an ebay shopper. Throttle servo is about 9 bucks shipped..

My 250 oz steering servo was about 28 bucks shipped. And i have the hot bodies revolution wheels and that thing turns them like nothing and is holding up nicely so far.

People that spend high dollar amounts on a servo confuse me. sometimes they say you get what you pay for.. but sometimes your just paying for the name...

ill be ordering the new throttle servo soon and then finally get to drive my bebehh !!

**EDIT**

looks like my neighbor got a t-maxx.. can't tell forsure but i hear him driving that thing almost every day... its almost crazy to me because i rarely see anyone where i live driving rc trucks so I'm hoping to have a new driving buddy. every one has given up in RC in my town.

Yah thats how it is here to. i wish more people were into the hobby. My brothers used to be crazy about it like me. They have pretty much give it up. My one brother has like 25 trucks just sitting. He said he is thinking about selling them akk off at once. If I sell one of my extra street bikes this summer I might buy the whole lot of them. Most are Hpi savage trucks. But he has some rare stuff just sittin around.

Its messed up and i dont understand how anyone could actually grow bored of the hobby... i know one friend that for like 8 months we drove our trucks on a home made track we built usually twice a week.

After awhile he literally just tossed the truck in the back of his car and it hasnt been properly taken care of.. i wouldnt doubt it if he still has the fuel in there from nearly a year ago still in the tank..

I'm bored......its 14f, theres about 9" hard snow, my trucks are all serviced and fixed, and about another 2 or 3 weeks of the toocoldtorun RC weather been this way since november

So I'm still having some issues, i connected a perfectly fine servo in and it operates fine EXCEPT when I'm trying to throttle while steering, it almost seems that there is interference when both servos are being used.

Its almost laggy on the throttle so for instance ill be taking off and ill give it gas and it almost takes a couple seconds for the servo to react. My batteries in my radio are fresh and the receivers battery is fully charged.

so I'm hoping i didnt ruin the receiver when the battery was over charged ? but then again after this whole delema I've had the savages receiver connected to my RC18 and its been working perfectly. and i connected the servo to it while it was on the rc18 and its working properly no lagging what so ever.. could it be that the steering servo may be taking most of the juice when its activated ??

I'm not sure but this hasnt happened till this issue with the over charging.. i dont think its the battery but maybe it is.

And sometimes you do get what you pay for.
I consider the throttle/brake servo to be way more important than the steering servo.
If you have ever lost an engine due to a faulty throttle servo you would now why some people spend more for a brand name.
Years ago I lost a Ron Paris signed Picco in a rs4 because a cheap servo burnt out at about ¾ throttle. The car ended up upside down running almost wide open. The crank pin broke before I could get to it and shut it down.
Not long after that I lost a 3.3 when the cheap servo shredded some gears and locked up at wot. Again the rig ended up upside down running wide open and the con rod split down the middle.
In both of those instances the servo was locked up and a fail safe or throttle return spring could do nothing to help.
I’m not saying you’re doing a bad thing using a $9.00 servo, just letting you know why some of us prefer to spend a little more for the most important servo on any rc.

The throttle servo is the OEM HPI servo, I'm pretty sure thats good as is. Its just ebay has them for cheaper than what most hoppy stores sell them for.

Its not a knock off servo its the exact same one you find in the savage out of the box.

The one i was going to buy was sold but this is basically the same thing.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Savage-4-6-...racter_Radio_Control_Toys&hash=item27ce8cf326

bran new, never used.

This is the exact servo i have thats messing up right now...

I'm bumping this thread only because i havent done anything to my truck for awhile now.... I replaced the throttle servo with a bran new oem throttle servo.

I noticed it was still behaving the same way it did with the last servo. So that tells me the last servo was fine.

I played with different ideas to stabilize the two servos from interacting with each other.. i noticed when i would steer it would effect the throttle servo and cause it to glitch and move unpredictably.

I also noticed that when the two were being put to use at the same time the steering servo would work and the throttle servo would almost just stop working until the steering servo was no longer in use.

The final and last idea i had was to plug in the the older servo into the extra port of the receiver in hopes to stabilize everything. a

Surprisingly it worked, i plugged in the servo and it actually is no longer having interference issues with one another.

FYI - OEM servos are cheap servos. OEM does not mean high quality.

I consider HPI servos pretty dam good quality, If i didnt have my hot bodies on there i would still have the stock servos because they have always served me wel....

But back on the main focus...

does anyone have any opinions ?

have you tried a diff receiver could be an issue with your receiver causing all your problems. I would think if it was a battery problem it would have fried the receiver then the servos. Likely not a battery problem IMO

Yeah its been a good battery.. ill just order another...

The weird thing is while the truck was on down time i used it in my rc18 with no glitches or issues... How ever since that rc is electric it doesn't have the issue of having to operate 2 servo motors.
