If the original length us 8.5", is that 8.5 inches from the circuit board? or 8.5 inches sticking out of the Receiver box itself?

dont go with a guess. wait till someone posts a valid answer.

Agreed
Actually I was told to cut the antenna wire even with the top of your antenna tube, and if your application has to be soldered on the circuit board, they have antenna wires on ebay, 3ft for $1.00 so there you go? Thought id give it a glance

Absolutely DO NOT cut the wire to the top of the tube. The antenna length is tuned to the receiver, you must find out what the stock length of the antenna wire is/was, and replace it with the same length and guage wire. The length will be the overall length from the pc board to the end of the wire.
Please HPI-Killer, when you are only guessing, and have no clue, please do not give advice that could cause someone to have a run away and damage or destroy their rig.
Well to feed your hungry wonder, open the box up and see for yourself, I'm sayin 8.5 from the circuit but not sure
not a guess lol Iwas told by the hobby shop. my bad
Not everybody at hobby shops know what they are talking about. That's why I come here for answers. If you are passing on second-hand info, at least say that you heard it elsewhere.
