Ok I'm coming into a nice chunk of change in the next 2 weeks and I want to kick down on the project tip. I'm thinking of making one of these

I'm thinking 3 maybe some kind of 4 speed tranny, a super charger, and a Sirio .27 or a Thunder Tiger .70. So what do you think?

i think i would love to see you do that.when your done fill me in on the total price that is what i want build.

i have a question - Why? u can't drive it anywhere but a huge prepared surface - it only goes straight - no fun at all unless u have a bunch of people that have them too.

I think the drag cars are really cool, but watch what scale you build. After seeing many run, and watching a handful of videos, one concise conclusion I have drawn is, the smaller the scale the fast it will go in a shorter distance. I would stick to 10th scale. Or even a high end 8th scale. There will be a big price difference to go along with that. While the 5th scales are capable, the amount of money you will have to drop to hit that 100mph in a reasonable distance will be HUGE!

Stay with nitro if you can
Maybe something along the lines of a 3 speed 10th or 8th scale
.21 conversion or higher
Proper gearing of coarse

I'm not saying its not possible with the big toys, but, the cost to get you there is big time. Especially if you are trying to hit the high speed of 100+ in a short distance.

Just my 2 cents.....

That is the 1/8 scale and the full chassis setup weighs 4.5lbs so it should be pretty light. And to NA I already have my versitle RC's that I can run anywhere. I want to do something of the beatin path if you will, so thats why I chose a drag car. Now there are a couple of air strips that I can run on where they hold the real drag races. I seen a movie where an HPI SNRS4 did over 100mph so I want to see how far I can push the nitro RC top speed envelope. I will buy a radar gun if I decide to do this one.

when i wanted to get into RC i was thinking about building one of those too. I opted not too, i wish more people raced them, send me the link to the movies you saw, i would like to take a look at them.

humboldtblazer, I'd like to get into RC drag racing, but, there is not much interest in them around here! Too bad, there could be some serious competition, considering the interest that a lot of people in RC, have in the NHRA!
That being said, If you decide to run a TTR 70, keep in mind that the RPM's are only 18,000, which means you'll have to gear UP, considering that your rail is set up for 21's, which, run 28,000 or better. I'd recommend mounting 2 high HP, high RPM engines, but, then, I tend to go radical. :naughty:

Thanks for the pointers that some real good stuff to think about!

but that snrs4 flips over on the airstrip because it hits an imperfection in the strip.

Blazer, I have been considering getting a dragster myself. I have been talking to a few different people and found this place, Team Walburn . What they were saying is these cars are much lighter than the New Era dragsters. If you are looking to break the 100 mark 1 1/2 pounds is alot of weight. I really like the look of the New Era ones myself but I have been hearing good things about these cars.

Those are so dope! Thanks for the link, I didnt know that company exsisted. That is a great point because if I am going to build this thing I dont want a 55mpg dragster if you know what I mean. Good info!

Well if you really wanna get crazy, it's take some serious machining but get a YS engine. They're 4-stroke supercharged.

This may be out of the blue but, wouldnt an electric get the job done better? Electrics tend to have WAY better RPM numbers and a twin engine would be just as good in the accelleration. The CG would be down, and with a good battery pack and maybe...twin novak brushless...that think would be Fú_ken Fast!!!!

There's the grave digger. How's the project going? Dragsters always seemed about the same as oval racing, it gets old.

Yes I am going to build one but it's like 3 months away before I can buy the kit. I just bought a new 54inch HDTV and a Micro that I just sank $500 into. I was going to do it straight away until Eddy showed me his Micro LOL.
